iPod mate - 10/20/30/40GB data capacity vs a stack of MD's
I had the MZ-N1 last year and it was cool for going to college with, one Minidisc was hours of tunes but nowhere near as cool as the iPod similar.

I've been a big fan of MP3 players for a while and they can be had for about the same or less than an MD player.
With an MP3 player, you don't have to worry about buying discs or moving parts, as most of the cheaper ones are solid state!
I had a Creative Labs 128Mb Muvo, and that gives you about 20 songs at reasonable quality, the only problem I found with it was that it ate batteries! Then again a battery charger and 4 AAA rechargeable batteries can be had from Maplin for £9.99!![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I now have a 128Mb bought in Hong Kong. It's has a display (the old style Muvo doesn't, but the new version does), voice recorder, radio and speaker (
)!! It requires a cable to connect it to a PC's USB slot, unlike the Muvo which has the USB plug built in. I think it cost about £100 in Hong Kong! ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
There are plenty out there, normally more for the smaller ones.
Personally I think MD is dead, even LPMD hasn't really saved the format. The net MD is a good idea, but really it's too little too late!

Yep - Solid state is the way forward or indeed the new blueray disks which are 3CM in diameter and hold up to a gig of data.
Also worth noting is the restrictions imposed on the Sony Net MD players, I can't remember the exact problems I had but I think you'll find you have to record music in atrac3 format and not MP3 and the software also verifies that you only copy music back to the source and not to different MD/PC!
Sure this could be cracked but the MP3 player is the simplest way.
