Blood from nostril when I blow my nose
#1
Over the past year I have noticed that I get some blood from my right nostril when I blow my nose. This has progressively gotten worse and seems to be quite bad after a heavy night out (smoking and drinking).
I am completely healthy otherwise.
Why does this happen? Is this something to be worried about?

I have this, suffered quite badly in my youth. Basically the veins that line your nostil are getting inflamed for some reason and when you blow your nose it bursts the vein. You can go and get the veins cortarised (sp?) which is what I did. It hasn't completely cured the problem but it's made it 98% better.

Try to get hold of Dr John Banks. Unfortunately he'll probably dagnose your nosebleed as detonationand recommend that you get a knocklink for ease of mind.
edit: And stop picking your nose!

Hello
As mentioned above, it's just the viens in your nose that are weak and some break if you blow your nose too hard. Or if you partake in certain substances.
They usually only cauterise your nose if you suffer from bad nose bleeds. I used to have nosebleeds that would last for 3 or 4 hours and I used to wake up in the mornings sometimes with blood all over my pillow / hair / everywhere.
In general, don't worry about it!
Steve.

Probably a weak blood vessel. Buy some silver nitrate, stick a cotton bud in it then shove it up your nose.... that's all the Dr will do to cauterise it anyway!

i had this once.
Funny enough it happened 10 seconds after i asked this Hells angel chappie to move his fat unwashed **** out of the way of the bar, so i can get served... - strange that.
anyway, it went away and that was that. (ruined a perfectly good shirt though)
see your doc, it wont hurt.
all the best

Probably a deviated nasal septum or more accurately whitestickyupthenoseitis
Edited to say:
Both of the above suggestions are a joke so go see your GP or ring NHS Direct

You might have a hedgehog stuck up there. Apparently they like sneeking up people's nostrils at night, as it's a safe, warm place to rest. But they go too far, get trapped and whenever you blow your nose, they get frightened, roll up into a ball, and their spikes cut the inside of your nose.
You could try the RSPCA - maybe Rolf Harris can put his dijjerydoo into reverse and suck it out.

ROFLMAO He'd probably recomend some cure using a dawes with an enlarged bleed (no pun) hole as well

Personally I would go and see the doctor. It could be a sign of high blood pressure.
Chances are a trip to the Doctors would be more re-assurring than posting here!

I get the bleeding nose occasionaly. I blow my nose and blam. Just week vessels in my nose. My blood pressure is spot on.
My brother had it worse and had the veins quarterised. Hurt like hell and his sense of smell has gone. But no bleeding nose anymore.
