Tory Policy on Speed Cameras

Sounds like a good idea. Only get points if its in a dangerous place. But surely that means all the other cameras will just be revenue generators? On the other hand seems sensible. Get caught speeding which we know we shouldn't do and you will just get a fine. So long as they don't put any more of the damn things up.

I'm sure we'd love to believe that the Tories would take a tough line on 'speed'/'safety' cameras. However, the cynic in me says it's just a line to gain public appeal. Why should we actually believe them?

Yeah, after all it was them who introuduced the f**king things to the UK in the first place.
Honestly, I can't believe people are actually considering voting for them just because they come out with propoganda like this - still the UK is full of suckers so who knows!

Lets not forget the fact that the focus was sharply brought onto revenue incentives for the local authorities under Labour and the original intent for the cameras has been totally lost!

It doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always wins.
Their policies are so similar these days the main reason to vote is to get them out when they get too cocky.
The basic desire to become a politician, should barr you for life from ever being one.
Thanks to Billy for the quotes.

Not sure about this - they say that 1000 of the 4500ish cameras are in dangerous areas, which may or may not be true, and that you'd get 5 points or so for exceeding the limits in these areas. Fair enough, perhaops.
But in the other 3500 areas you'd not get points .... meaning you could do (theoretically) 200+mph in a 30 zone and not get points, even though there's clear and incontrovertible proof that you (well, your car) has done it. Whereas if the police caught you doing 200mph on the same stretch of road in a traffic car or with a laser trap you'd go to prison for 12 months orso.
Doesn't stack up, does it?
Not that it matters, they've got as much chance of being elected as Wolves have of staying up.

It's a bit more honest, in that it becomes obvious the cameras are revenue generators.
It would also increase the amount of revenue; currently get caught 4 times, get banned, no more fines. Or get caught 3 times, and drive religiously at 29mph.
Getting fines rather tahn points would mean you could pay lots and lots of extra tax, rather than just 3 or 4 fines.

289 - a 30mph would indicate that you are in a built-up area most probably or one where there are pedestrians etc. The Tories are proposing that you would get an increased no. of points than present for being caught in such a limited road so your points and a potential ban are still a possibility.
