Question

Father to go ahead with kidney sale

Colin Randall says Alice's treatment has already cost £30,000
A man who put his kidney up for sale to help his handicapped daughter is planning to go to the US to meet three people who have offered to buy it.
Peter Randall, from Sevenoaks, is to have tests to see if he is a compatible donor for the potential buyers.

He believes selling one of his kidneys is the only way he can pay for education and medical treatment for his six-year-old daughter Alice, who has cerebral palsy.

Mr Randall was told he faced prosecution if he went ahead with the sale of the organ in the UK but such sales are not illegal in the US.

It's something I don't want to do, but it's something I will have to do in order to raise the funds

He put his kidney for sale for £50,000 in November on the internet auction site Ebay.

The advert was removed after it received widespread media publicity in early December, with Ebay saying the sale of human organs was banned.

But within days bids began to come in from the US, with one woman offering £80,000.

Mr Randall, who is 49, said he did not want to sell his organ, but could see no other option, particularly as offers had been made in excess of the price he first asked.

Alice was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when she was a year old

"It's something I don't want to do, but it's something I will have to do in order to raise the funds."

Mr Randall expects to go to the US in mid-January for the compatibility tests.

Dunno about this one. Think if it wasmy own then I might have a different opinion. Trouble is where do you draw the line.

Chip.

There`s a place up by me that pays you to test new drugs, but i think the furthest they go is removing your little finger, all for medical science and the likes. And quite a lot of people go there a pint of blood will buy a few pints of beer i believe.

I'd have no compunction whatsoever about buying body parts from a vendor if I needed them.

People should be free to do whatever they please as long as it doesn't harm others.

Hmmm..interesting one. I'd sell my kidney given the option - it potentially helps someone daft enough to pay good money - so why not? If someone you love is suffering and you had the choice.... I would.

My advert will read:

'33 yr old kidney looking for steak to love (gettit? steak and..) One current owner, low alcohol consumption, good runner, so squeaks or squeals. Sold as seen. No trainee surgeons or kidney kickers. Offers in region of £30,000 or if your american £100,000'

IMHO - He's has no intentions of selling it and now he's got media attention and the sympathy of one or two Ritchie Riches, he won't need to. If we kicked out one bogus asylum seeking family the money would pay for the wee lasses keep. Blair – Sort your ******* country out! ****!
