Hiya,

I've just looked at royal mails site and its quite a reasonal price to rent a post office box.

I think its a better idea to stay reasonably anonymous for traiding on the net, does a 'PO box' address provide this?

Oh and I say this from previous expirience, dealing with sh!tty buyers etc. I'd rather be able to cut the strings and stay safe.........

No it does not. When mail is delivered to a P.O. box the Royal Mail automatically sends a postcard with the box owner's home address to the mail sender. They do this to speed up future communications between the two.

Gareth:

Are you sure? I've sent things to a PO Box before, and certainly have not had any correspondence back from the Post Office.

I should clarify that the Royal Mail only send out the little postcards if you're scamming people on eBay and hiding behind a P.O. box - they have an office in Mount Pleasant dedicated to it.

i thought that you had to register a po box to a home address, and that if anyone wanted to know the registered owner of a po box, royal mail are obliged to tell u.

in other words, u can't hide behind a po box.

You can request the address associated with a PO Box. No security whatsoever.

Oh dear Chaos, you're not really much up on this anonymity are you?

OK, just to be clear on what I did / posted ...
  • Looked at Chaos' profile
  • Noticed that his AOL email address contained what looked like a surname
  • Plugged this surname into the free service on 192.com with the location as Manchester
  • Posted a link to the search results (there were three)

... not that naughty really - but hey, whatever

I was merely attempting to show that it is possible to trace anyone on the web without too much difficulty.

I think I've demonstrated my point - cod erat demonstrandum

well from what I saw, you've just traced Mr. Micky Mouse or Sir Joe Blogges, as far as Im concerned.

If you can get my home address, theres a coconut in it for ya, OK?

I would say that if anyone manages to deliver a coconut to Chaos at home then there's a beer in it for them, but that would be unbecoming behaviour of a moderator so I wont.

Two parrots on a perch. One turns to the other and says "can you smell fish?"

don't smell fish, just smell a complete joker.

Did think he'd gone the way of Luke (not that he's actually gone yet ) guess it was just wishful thinking on my part.
