Going to Boston/upstate New York on my honeymoon in the middle of April, as there will be a bit of driving of about a 1000miles, so I've booked a bit of bling-bling hire car (Cadillac De Ville
[1]). The rental agreement includes Loss Damage Waiver but no Collision Damage Waiver. Should I take Collision Damage Waiver? Do I want it? If so, are there cheaper places than Avis to take out the insurance.
I've been to Texas 6/7 times before and had rental cars each time, my company has a say no to CDW policy, so I've never taken it before (and never had problems with it). Now it's my money I'm all interested
.
[1] Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it'll be crap round the twisties
. Bed springs for suspension anyone?

No idea, I decline all rental car insurance because what's not covered by my own auto policy is covered by my credit cards. Is it *that* expensive? The stuff I decline is about $10/day I thought.
It'll be crap on the twisties BTW.

I hired a car in Las Vegas years ago and was fortunate enough to have collision waiver because I was involved in an accident that wasn't my fault and the hire company still tried screwing me and my mate and took £200 off my credit card without my say so
He changed bank accounts after that because they had his account number and I managed to get my money back form my credit card. W A N K E R S

If your company has a 'no to CDW' policy, it's probably because they have insurance of their own that provides the same cover. A lot of big companies whose employees travel a lot do this to save money. Might be worth asking your fleet dept what the score is.
However, if yours is a personal rental then your company's insurance won't apply (unless you can sort out a deal with them), so I suggest you do get CDW. You can't have too much insurance in the most litigious country on Earth

Cheers guys - I'll go for it.
Was being a tight Scotsman
and from the lack of info on the Avis website, it seemed like an extended warranty type thing.
