Bare with me on this one,
If I`m looking at a car with a private plate on and the seller of the car is keeping the private plate and having a "normal" plate put on what is the situation If I want to put a private plate on the car, is there a way of cutting out the normal plate and saving some time / money in the process??
Confused.

Try ringing your local DVLA office, mine is in Leeds.
They have a desk (and sometimes even a person sat at it) that does cherished transfers.

Why not contact the seller and rather than him putting a normal plate onto it, just transfer your private plate onto it? Et voila - save one set of transfer fees (ie you pay and knock it off the price of the car as he'd have to pay to remove his plate anyway).

when the seller takes his plate off the DVLA will automatically give the car an age related plate.
You can do a transfer as soon as the sellers transfers complete and you have the logbook back with the age related plates number on it - if you go to your local DVLA office they should do it over the counter
