Need some advice....

Every night at approximately the same time (around 6pm) someone phones the house (BT line). I say "hello" and they hang up.

This is getting darned annoying. Its only been going on a couple of weeks, but it's frustrating.

I've tried 1471, but the number is with-held.

Now I work in telecomms (cellular) and know that there isn't really such a thing as a withheld number. The switch must know the calling party so BT should be able to find it.

What do you think I should do ?
Call BT and find it out or
Be a complete child and whistle as loud as possible down the phone, and hope its not my parents calling !

Talking

Try answering the phone and NOT saying anything - see what happens...if it still hangs up within the same time - suspect automated computer dialing.

just let the phone ring a bit longer, you are probably one of several numbers being dialled at once by some fcukwit in telesales. Someone else will answer before you, besides, you can always do a 1471.

call BT, get them to put a bar on number witheld calls. if you know anyone who is ex-direct and automatically has a witheld number, then they just have to dial 141 before they call your number. this will then show their number up if you did a 1471
problem solved and all callers identified.

Get all withheld numbers barred, we did.
BT charge us monthly for it though. Im not sure how much, not my department.
It was well worth it for us, as we were getting calls in the middle of the night.
