Time to interrogate the Scoobynet knowledge base.
My mum is losing the use of her legs due to a chronic spinal condition and is finding the stairs at home hard work. With the benefit of hindsight, the parents should have bought a bungalow several years ago but they didn't and I think they'll be in this place until the end.
Seems to me a stairlift might be the answer. Anyone on here had any personal experiences with them? I'd be interested to know:
- How much?
- Rent or buy?
- is there a 2nd hand market?
- Any makes to avoid?
- Good installation companies to recommend?
Cheers

There is a 2nd hand market on these. My uncle fitted one for my aunt while she was suffering with "C". Not long after she'd gone , it was sold on and re-fitted.

Thanks Chaps
Moving house right now just isn't practical although it would be the best solution overall.
I've spoken with a very helpful lady in social services but through the state, you're looking at about 5 months wait presently so I think my dad would prefer to do it privately.
Notorious - the folks live about 6 miles north of Derby, I'm in Wiltshire.
Thanks again.
Cheers

Mark, e-mail me if you like I know where there are a couple now plus a through floor lift.
I'll just check the finer details and post back.
Stairlift 1. Stannah 230, R/H Swivel, Rail 3950. £650 (installed, subject to location)
· Stairlift 2. Meditec 120, R/H swivel, Rail 4150. £650 (installed, subject to location)
Nothing to do with me I must add.
You can check on the makers website for model specs in case neither are compatible.

Never ceases to amaze me the info you can get on here !
Hope you get one sorted for your mum.
I reckon Stannah have missed a trick though, perhaps re-marketed for post-pub use they could be onto a winner.

Im amazed at these posts.Last year i had the task of clearing a large house/estate left to myself/sister.As well as several `electic chairs`,mobility devices (for my great aunt)-there was a stailift i think stannah-i believe actually never used. We attempted give these items to social services charities mobility etc with no sucess at all (to much hassle, etc etc) in the end went in skip!

Tried ebay !!! £200 at the moment

No connection with the above
Only reason I looked at the link was that my aunty brought one a few years back for a sizable some, unfortunately she then passed away and the same bloke then came back and brought it for a pittance.
Seems like a area for low lifes to pray on the old, as in reality you are not going to need one of these devices for very long.
However, as with all things like this no all suppliers should be tarred with the same brush.

I have a stannah you can buy for 600 pounds It is two years old and comes with all the paper work from stannah warranty cards etc. I have the bill from new showing it cost 4K. It is a complete untit with remotes switches etc and you bolt it to a straight stair case then connect the power wires to it which then charges the battery inside the chair so it srill works through power cuts.
Edited to add can deliver and install and open to offers.
