What is that about?
Scottish MPs voting on an English only issue, that will not effect Scotland in any form.
English MPs don't get to vote on Scottish issues.
Strange how the Scottish Labour MPs all voted for the tuition fees and swung the victory.
Personnally I think it is an outrage.

Does no one remember the Poll Tax? We had it "tested" in Scotland for a year before it was rolled out to the rest of the UK and then they decided it was crap
Should check spelling before hitting submit

Its the european parlament that winds me up, bunch of losers controlling a stagnant economy B.liar has sold us out to, who now make decisions for us and waste our money
as for the Scots, i thought the european parlament had banned the selling of kilts in male parts of shops and you have to go into ladies wear sections now.
Vote them out and hope we get someone with sense.

This used to pi55 me off until I understood it properly. Basically the Scottish MP's are voting on a British issue so fair enough, why shouldn't they, they are part of Britain. It just so happens that their country has opted out of British rule in some areas and adopted local policies which they control themselves. England however seems happy with going with the British way. If England felt it was inappropriate for MP's from the rest of Britain to control certain issues affecting England specifically, then it should set up its own regional assembly like Scotland has done and then only English people would decide English matters. There will always be certian issues though that affect the whole of Britain and everyone should be allowed to vote on them.

But this was an English only issue. Wales and Scotland wanted devolution, fine I have no problem with that, but in England we never got a vote, maybe we want devolution as well. And I appreciate the comments on the Poll Tax (personally I thought it was a fair tax) and agree that was wrong and that devolution goes a long way to alter that kind of thing.
My own view is that for issues that affect England only MP's representing English constituencies shoud get the vote.

Has nobody considered the impact on Scottish Universities with people from down south filling more University places as a direct result of the tuition fees or am I missing something

Re the comment that Scottish MPs should vote because Scottish students can come to English/Welsh universities, well Scottish students can go and study in American universities but Scottish MPs don't get a say on how US universities are funded.

Exactly what I was going to say Mungo - I could have gone to the states but dont get a say on their system; the french can come to English universities but dont get a say in the ENglish system etc.....
So, thats not a great argument IMO - although I admit it is slightly different in this case due to Britain/devolution etc....

What are you pair talking about?????????? theres plenty of english students studying in scottish Uni's. So why can't a Scottish student study in England, makes the whole voting thing seems a bit more relevant to me. As for devolution thats been a laugh NOT, more like I've got an idea but we better run it past TB before we do anything with it

errr...no one said anything about them not being able to study - just that that isnt a justification for the Scottish MPs to get that vote.

English MP's have been ******* Scotland over for years. No one down south complained then.
Although I agree the fees are wrong

I havent actually offered much of opinion - I have simply said that the fact that scottish students can attend english universities isnt a justifiable argument on its own to allow scottish MPs to vote on how english universities are funded.
My opinion is that neither english or scottish MPs should be able to vote on matters that dont directly affect their constituents. But thats easier said than done.

Sorry Diablo
Spooks - but I still don't see how scottish students being able to attend english universities out of their own choice is, alone, a justification in itself for the scottish MPs to vote on the funding of English universities? Thats not to say whether they should or shouldnt (although I think they shouldnt ) but that that isnt sufficient reasoning for them to get the vote.
lol, and yeah you can have Brown back if you want!!!
