After not receiving any e-mails for the last few days I contacted the company who I got the addresses from free approximately 5 years ago and have been my POP3 server.
This was the first ever phone contact I've had with them as for years I've had no problems at all.
Ironically though I did track them down and e-mail them last week asking if they were the same company who offered these free addresses as their current website looks totally different and their name has changed slightly.
Their reply was that they did offer the free addresses but it was no longer what they do.
A few days later my e-mails stop.
On the phone this morning they said they aren't prepared to host the free e-mail addresses they offered years ago any longer.
Now I'm píssed off big time as these e-mail addresses are obviously known to me and are now "dead".(without warning)
They are also great addresses which I think bothers them more than anything as they originally offered them free. The chap on the phone actually said some of the addresses they gave away are worth thousands so I think this confirms that thought.
The fact I e-mailed them originally I think highlighted my "free" status. Had I not bothered I'd still have these email addresses working, I reckon.
The guy then went on saying how they are a business to make money and there might be a chance to purchase the right to have my addresses hosted by them for a cost of maybe £50+vat per address per year as they are currently talking about the possibilities!!
I understand the business thing but after so long owning these addresses I'm well píssed off.
I take it they are well within their rights to do this, even though just cutting me off without warning while I'm in the middle of several conversations/negotiations with people is a bit harsh?
Any ideas?

Thanks guys,
I composed a nice long email to their compassion department and lo and behold an hour later I was offered a web based service free of charge which ironically has a setting to merge all the addresses into one and then redirect that one bundle to say a seperate address in outlook express.
So in theory there is no difference, just the route in which they travel.
Maybe they will twig on I'm going to do that and then insist I only read them on the webpage, who knows?
Anybody know the difference in the cost to them by allowing a webmail service but not seemingly allowing the redirecting of mail to another outgoing mail server?
I'd be interested in the difference especially as I can select the option myself in the settings.
Dazza- The addresses are valuable to an individual/business in the game they refer to.
ie- equities@trader.co.uk- great for the city boys/girls just for one example.
