Can anyone advise me on giving out name and bank details to people in order for them to carry out a bank transfer to pay for goods purchased on E Bay?

Cool

There is no difference in giving out bank account no. and sort code as sending a cheque, if anything its prob safer because they never see your signature!

You'll be alright. But if they could get it authorised on a paypal account, they could withdraw money..

Does no one agree?

As long as you only send your sort code, account number your good to go ( not full account number the last 8 iirc ) as thats standard for any bank transfer and Ive dont it many a times.

What I meant was not the whole number that is seen on the front of your credit card, the number you would enter say if you were buying something from a online store or over the phone. The number for a bank transfer is the last eight.

Oh and to avoid confusion your name is also needed with the other two details.

your account number is hardly a secret- its on every cheque you ever write!

lets assume your names not secret!

and the sort code is the banks not yours.

you are safe using this and i use it for EVERY net/ebay deal.

Yep, most of my suppliers publish this information freely on their invoices for payments.

remember the diff between your account number, and your credit/debit card number!!!!!

accountholder name:
bank account number:
sort code:

standard practice.....

use eggpay instead - it is a totally free service (unlike paypal) and there is no commision charge either.

They set themselves up with an account and credit it from any uk bank a/c or debit card - they then send you an e-mail payment which you can collect and pay into any uk account electronically and without having to disclose your bank details to anyone - it is a fantastic service - you even get e-mail status notes for each step of the transactions.
And more - you can use the eggpay service to transfer money between uk bank accounts using the egg money manager - again totally free of charge on all electronic transfers

try it you WILL be impressed

paypal sucks

Hello

I've done this several times. I don't really see the problem. As mentioned above it is definately no worse than sending a cheque, and much, much quicker.

Oh no, I've already sent my credit card details to Hawasi Umbongo from Nigeria. He said that he just needed to check my identity with my credit card and that no money would be taken from it. He also said that if I do this, he would be able to send me $20 million - good deal eh?
