Not easy to get into Oz unfortunately , but bricklayers can virtually walk straight in.
Also if you can bring in over $1,000,000 as a business immigrant.
I have lived in Perth now since 1981 and still a pom.
Work continuity can be problematic , so I work overseas most of the time.
There is a lot going for Oz .Every city is great , but be prepared to take some stick if your a pom - just dont whinge and you'll get on fine.

Poor Guy, have you spent any time overseas ? I don't mean holidays, but living/working abroad.

Car tax is much more in Japan (several hundred quid), plus all expressways (motorways) are toll roads. 300km costs around 30 quid. And you can still be stuck in nose to tail traffic jams.

One plus here is the low level of crime. I don't need an alarm, imobiliser, tracker or Blacjax on my WRX.

There are pluses and minuses. The grass is often not as green as it appears.

Red face

Well as long as your not one of the 75% of people the RAC interviewed about paying 1 pound a litre for petrol and binning road tax (it would cost me nearly 500 quid extra every 6 months if they did it that way ) so no doubt people put lots of thought into that too (but your right about 190 quid for road tax and seeing nothing come from it except a 10000% increase in speed bumps on roads )

Theres a website which assesses your eligibility - not sure what its called though.

Brickies, sparkies and plumbers get good points (like 20 just for the profession). I also think you have to turn over 70,000GBP to show you can support yourself.

Having rellies / and or sponsor will also help immensely.

You can now get a fast track visa to Oz. But you have to be prepared to live in the outback.

Cool

NSW you will pay approximately $450 a year for rego....it ain't that cheap over here.

There are druggies over here, theives, murderers etc, etc here too so don't think it is all roses in another country though.

BUT, the vast majority of the people in Aussie are great, the place is fantastic, the weather is fantastic........look into it if you are serious. The opportunities over here in Australia are plentiful.
Immigration is strict and a lengthy process be prepared for lots of forms, questions and requirements.

Every country is what you make it to be. I am still discovering the delights of Down Under and I have to say each day it just gets better.

You get plenty of crap being a pommie, they love taking the mickey......keep your head down and go on about how you love Aussie and you'll fit in well.

A good site to look at is this one http://www.immi.gov.au/index.htm it gives you all the info you need for emigrating to this lovely place.

A working holiday visa is great for young people who have enough time to take off for a year to travel and discover Australia. I strongly recommend to do this if you can......you will never regret it.....the only thing you would regret would be going back to the UK.....that is if you choose to do so.

I am doing well thanks, in the last week I have finally got myself fully employed with a really good employer who are happy to provide references to aid my migration.
I am adapting well to the Aussie lifestyle, I have lost my white pommie look and am looking more "local" with a great tan. LOL Still working on losing the accent though. People have actually mistaken me for a Kiwi, so I think I am getting there. Hehehe.

How are you?

Andrewdelvard hit the nail on the head. You would not last 30 seconds in Oz with your attitude. You sound like a spoilt child who is unable to do anything for himself. Get your brains together and start to try and achieve something worthwhile in your life instead of behaving as though the world owes you a living.

[flame suit = ON]

LOL @ at all people defending this country as how "great" it is

The problem with this country is simply everything is too expensive in terms of basic living, and the average wage to support the living cost is far too small. After paying bills, and taxes what's left to spend/save is minimal.

Sure the average wage in this country isn't bad. But living costs are too much for it to support, add to that current house prices, huge loans, credit card and mortgage repayments, the cost of basic public and utility services. Can you wonder why people who struggle to meet ends complain?

I ask you this, before you go defending this country...how much is basic telphone, internet, water, gas and public services cost in other countries? What are locals banks mortages rates? What are the average house prices? The taxes on earnings, spendings, businesses, motoring? The average wage maybe quite alot less than the UK, but so are the outgoings.

There are exceptions I know, and if someone is daft enough to live in an immensly over-inflated city (such as London, New York, Tokyo etc.)without the the income to support the high living costs is understandably daft.

But when you can just about to afford to live in is what can be best descibed an a deteriorated slum, and with ever increasing living costs, and proposed further increases in taxes, with no evidance of decent public spending - which seems to be diverted to big cities (or should that be "city" ) And moving anywhere nicer will cost even more. What can you do? What is described irritatingly by many as "Climb the Ladder" seems impossible, and the only forseeable route is back down it again!

If this place was worth what is payed into it and I was happy with the area I live, as long as what I earnt supported the current lifestyle I would have no problem. But it isn't, it's an eternal struggle. I'm not after some Tarty big house in the country or a fancy apartment on canary wharf, so don't think I'm after the high life. I would be just happy in a 3 bed house with a garage within 10 mins walk of a decent pub that's not full of ***** and you won't get mugged by gobsh1tes in the underpass..is that too much to ask for?

Perhaps it is....seems to be anyway!

Rant over

agree totally mate.

lol @ 'getting mugged by the gob****es in the underpass'

i think a lot of this 'britain is ****' DOES stem from crime. as someone previously mentioned in japan there is no crime apart from the organised gangs etc who will pretty much leave you be as long as you dont get in their way which is fair enough really. and think how much public spending could be put into other things if it wasnt spent on crime.

could you honestly imagine how good this country would be if the government went totally all out on crime anyway possible? no need for alarms, leave your door open etc, cheaper insurance better spending on health etc. its absolutely staggering...

wed still have shi* weather though.

This country is sh*t but you can only say that and get away with it if you only have 1 eye and a hook for a hand. Then it perfectly ok to rant about how crap the uk is. But if you are born here you cant say anything.

I wont even start on our beloved Fuhrer his toniness the white wash king.
