Such a big one in bed this morning, honest to god I would have put a contortionist to shame. The bed groaned. Girlfriend said it was like something out of American Werewolf in London. Thinking about it, there is something so satisfying about it, but I don't know why we do it. Must be a physical reason for it.
Anyone know?

During the day, your spine compresses as you are vertical, the weight of your body and gravity acting upon it.
When you go to bed, you spine starts to go back to "normal", you muscles relax and so on.
In the morning a stretch just helps to put everything back in its place, stretch and warm the muscles ready for action. Bit like stretching before you play sport.

Tell you what I must go through some serious spine compression during the day for the amount I stretch in the morning. It's a bit embarrassing really, sometimes I stop mid stretch if the girlfriend walks in.
If you know what I mean.

Now you see that doesn't happen for me. Usually I fart as I do stomach crunches at the gym. May not be popular but what do you do? It'd make me ill if I kept them in.
