Ebay ?

Can be good but don't get carried away m8 - pull out if its getting too expensive, there'll probably a similiar or the same item on later (often just further down the page).
I set myself an upper limit and stick to it - mostly !! lol

j4cko,
yep its great fun but dont overspend, the amount of stuff I see people pay as much (and sometimes) more than the item would cost new. Great for selling stuff too as junk you were gonna throw away you can get a few quid for on there. Ive bought and sold no end of stuff, you do get the occasional pain in the *** bidder who wins your item and then decides not to pay though!
cheers

Its great for stuff I cannot get anywhere else, but I always set myself a reasonable limit not to bid over for each item. And if you do not win this time, it is almost certain that another of the same item will get put on and you usually get it cheaper as less people are bidding for it.
Also, only bid as much as you can afford to loose. There a some serious con-artists on there, who are happy to take you money and run.
And it is great to get shot of your junk from the loft. I have sold posters for 20-30 quid a go! People pay stupid money for stuff! Cash in now.

i buy and sell loads....
1) ppl will pay over shop prices sometimes as they assume it must be good value....if you are selling this is good...but fall ito that trap..KNOW what a good price is.
2) there is ALWAYS another item- dont be affraid to loose one.
3) look for auctions that end late at night or early am...god knows why ppl plan it that way but the best price is when no ones around to bid
4) WHY WHY WHY does/would anyone bid before 10 secs to go?

yep excercise caution... there are plenty of take your money and run people there.
Speaking of which can anyone help me track a ******* who run off with over 300 of my hard earned money??? All I have is a name and an Abbey National Account /Sort code... I think if he knew I could find his house he might be more forthcoming returning the $$$
I know I know... please don't preach on how I should have handled this, I've learnt the hard way on how ebay can shaft you and the buyer always comes out worst.
Anyway... Abbey National please help.

tompotato,
I take it you have requested his details from ebay, there is usually a link, I used it once to speak to a bloke that wasn't answering his email - the guy that answred the phone had never heard of the seller or even ebay

the guy has been suspended.... spoken to him on the phone though, he's claiming it's in the post etc etc, but the courier he claims to have used knows nothing - put it this way I know he is a fraud.
I'm sure the ebay details are all false

I know what you mean about not bidding till the last 30/10 seconds.
I listed my STI 8 on it for a 10 day auction and withing 3 days it was sitting at £21.2k, which is just £2k under my reserve price so I thought, excellent! it's going no problem.
Stayed at £21.2k till the auction ended...
Why didn't they just hang off till later on and the bidder's would have got themselves a bargain?

I never list anything that ends at the weekend as it always makes less than weekday endings.
1400 is my best average time to end as people are obviously bored at work .
So, for a bargain early or late Saturday nights seem the best.

Do a web search for the online prices you could get for the item - sometimes it is easy to get carried away and pay more than a high street price. Remember that they will also include a warranty.
If the item has come up once on Ebay then chances are it'll show up again so don't worry about being outbidded.
I've found ebay (and online buying) so useful now that I just use the high St and retail parks as "viewing" shops and look for the items cheaper on the web.
I just laugh when I am in PC World and see the prices.

It's good fun. I'm planning to have a go at selling soon. As said above stick to your limit, there will always be something better along soon. Don't get pissed off if you lose or get outbid, it happens quite a lot.
My vintage Comic Strip VHS collection is coming together quite nicely.. (where else could you get hold of stuff like this?)
