Are those things they all built just mad or what?
I love that V8 Trike and that Rolls Royce 16-cylinder diesel tractor thing. The boat thing looks like a US military DUK
The beetle with a diesel engine is bit lame, but not a bad effort seeing it's a girly team
...and they're all road legal...how cool is that?

The tractor is a praaaaaaper job!
Did they say what the engine came out of? The last time I saw a Rolls Royce diesel like that was an inline 12 cylinder in an armoured personnel carrier.

Dunno what that engine is off.... a Tank perhaps??
Or perhaps a tank carrier?
I would have thought it would have been a military engine...but would I be right in saying that the MOD paint all their engines blue? or was that just the MOD Land Rovers?
Otherwise I would have said it was some sort of genset or marine engine...but that would'nt have a 10 speed gearbox would it?....I think I'll get googling
Certainly shifted quite well anyway!

Originally, they said Massey for the engine which would be for Massey Fergusson tractors or harvesters i would guess.

Didn't see it, but the military don't pain the engines, well not recently anyway. Used drive, operate and service the Leyland DAF DROPS trucks, nice had a Perkins Eagle engine in it and we used to be able pull 80 Tonne! IIRC it was circa 16 litre, which is not that unusual for a truck, tanks are way bigger than that. Think the Challenger used to have an engine that was pretty much the same as an inter city 125 train.

PMSL at the plumes of smoke that came out of it as it over revved its **** off with Mr "Paraaaper Job" trying to stop the engine by smothering the air intake, another one trying to disconnect the fuel and the rest screaming and running away from it!
When they asked him how his team were taking the news that he had just destroyed the engine he said:
"well aaactually they bin taken it naaat too bad, bin quite good to I...... dunno wot they bin sayin bout I beyoind moi back moind!"

They didn't go into too much detail unfortunately, but I would imagine they used a unit from an artic or something. It may not actually be bigger capacity but they definately said it had more power because the expert was worried they may snap a drive shaft!
I also noticed a bit of staging going on in this episode, because their vehicle was definately on brand new big tractor tires before, yet when they arrived at this round they had mysteriously changed to road tires and all teams were "desparately foraging for 4wd tires". Then, as luck would have it, it showed them carrying 4 brand new tractor tires back to their area!
Channel 4 - busted!

based on a Range rover

I think the Boat boys mechanicals came from their Range Rover...which ate the front diff/halfshafts when they tried towing the ambulance with it on the first program. So that's why it did'nt have 4wd.
You right, it shouldn't stop them making it 4wd in the first place...not as if a Land Rover front axle is a rare sight is it??
And I bet the input or lay shaft went on the gearbox whilst going up that hill (typical Range Rover gearbox ) 4wd or not - it would have still broke!

Well, the Taxi won it in the end, and I think they deserved to over all! Also big respect to the Barley Pickers for managing to make their 7 ton tracter float!
The Boat Boys were a load of bollox as usual, it was painfully obvious that their vehicle was never going to float!
