Places to see and visit in Edinburgh...

I am getting married in June and we are going to Edinburgh for our honeymoon, so was thinking of hiring a car a bit special for 2 or 3 days and explore the sights and places!!
Anyone know of any decent places we could visit that would be nice and romantic where we could stop for lunch etc and where I could enjoy the roads also? Also other general things to do in the city whilst we are there that would be nice...?
Cheers,
Ant

Take a drive into East Lothian via the coastal road along through Port Seton, Aberlady and up to Gullane (fuel surge road so be careful
). Then take a nice romantic walk on the beach up at Gullane/Dirleton
Brilliant if the weather is nice. There are lots of nice places to have lunch in the villages you will pass on the road.

Nice one Saxo Boy, will definitely be checking that out!
Just have a small problem at the moment of no one wanting to lend me a decent car because I am 25 and not 30!

Where are you staying on honeymoon?
If you have a night or 2 spare then well worth staying at The Witchery on the Royal Mile.
I spent the 1st couple of nights of my honeymoon there last June. Stunning. The new wife burst into tears when she saw the room.

Got married last year and had a fabulous honeymoon based around Edinburgh. If you want to take a day trip out with a lovely place to lunch head up to St Fillans on Loch Earn. It's a minute place and there are a couple of hotels - one right on the loch - that serve wonderful food. They hav tables right on the banks of the loch and it's utterly peaceful and picturesque!
For a very cheap but knackering day just walk up to the Salisbury Crags and Arthurs seat. A bloody big hill in the middle of a city - take a picnic and have a romantic meal with panoramic views of the city or the river (depending on which way you decide to face!)
Hope you have a fabulous time!

01968ld be somewhat against going to the Witchery as they seem to have got a bit complacent and with the prices they charge I would of expected better service. I know it's your honeymoon but it's still a bit pricey.
Kenny's got a point with travelling down the Gullane road etc as you have nice romantic beach walks etc![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
As for driving roads it would be worth the 2 or 3 hour drive up to Glencoe and give your lady a chnace to see some Highland scenery.
For a nice meal (not too pricey but nice traditional food and romanticish setting) I would recommend you book a table at the Howgate Inn (01968 670000) This is about 10 miles outside the centre of Edinburgh but you could combine your trip out of town with a visit down to Peebles and do a small borders tour![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
You'll probably find the centre of Edinburgh romantic enough ...although not much in the way of driving![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Enjoy

You'll probably be a bit early for the Jim Clark Rally
, it's early July I think - starts off around the docks in Edinburgh, which was a bit poor last year, but better round the villages on the following days.
Might not be quite what your new lady expects though.

Go and see the castle and make sure you go round with a tour guide.
Do NOT admit to being English though as you will receive plenty of abuse during the tour (from the guide![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
)
