Yo, we are looking into buying a house in Standlake near Witney. Anybody know it and if so any opinions ?

I happen to think that is a very nice part of Oxfordshire, nice traditional Cotswold stone homes, Traditional English pubs and good restaurants. If you like cycling there are some great routes.

quite nice i live in witney and the only downside is on a hot day you can smell ducklington sewage works !!!!

Grew up about 3 miles from Standlake - Aston and now live in Oxford. Used to BMX at Standlake Arena (Banger Circuit) in my youth!

Standlakes quite nice, my aunt has a house there now (watch out for a nutty woman with 3 English Setters....) There's an interesting mix of people, a few carrot crunchers, some retired folk and then the usual family types. Its one of the more expensive of the villages round that side of Witney and if your looking to commute it gives you better options - A40 to Oxford, A420 way to Swindon/Oxford/Abingdon...

Yes very nice part of Oxfordshire. Been through Standlake many times and i think it looks like a really nice place to live.

I grew up in Witney too! Moved to Pembrokeshire due to work in 97.

Standlake is a lovely place but perhaps a little quiet. My father lives in Eynsham and we have a house in Faringdon which is a little further away but still very nice.

Pembrokeshire is quite similar but we have the added bonus of having the Sea 10 minutes away

House prices in that area must be pretty horrific?

Thanks for the replies.
Standlake does indeed look nice but seems a lot more expensive than the surrounding area but we will have to decide what to do. We are comparing what our pound gets us in Standlake versus anywhere else local and at the moment North Leigh (just East of Witney) seems good value (if £375000 + for a four bed house is good value) but you never know.

As an aside, we have been casually looking for 3-4 months and as we are quite happy where we are and only really moving 'cause we can it is a real pain trying to work out where to live ! I wouldn't recommend it !
