its a great phone, but there are some idiosyncracies that take a bit of getting used to,like its no where near as easy to use with a bluetooth headset as my last phone, lots of farting about and quite often the sound its transferred over

Well I have been offered one free from my the spreadbetting company I use
Just have to pay a min of £6 line rental a month + £6 gprs data.
Just wondering if it really is as good as they say they are.
I already have a T610 and love that, so presumably the P900 is worlds ahead?
I guessing its more a personal organiser than just a phone?

Ive had a P800 (essentially a P900 only with 4096colour screen & older OS) for over a year now and Ive been pretty impressed.

Great being able to use MSN messenger and ICQ on the move, and theres some great games you can run on it (lemmings, doom, monkey island 1/2, dott etc). Also has proper net access, none of this WAP crap. Another useful thing is being able to control your home pc from it (using VNC). so you can keep an eye on your Kazaa downloads whilst at work!

Bad points - battery life isnt that good, its not ideal for writing text messages on, and its a bit bulky.

If you can get one that cheap mate, then go for it!!

You jammy sod.

Cheapest I can find one over here is 650 euros, about 400 quid, without contract. They've only appeared in the last week or two, no-one is doing contract deals yet.

Original XDA is almost the same price.

I'm getting one free from orange as an upgrade, but my contract is £200 a month for 2 phones and told them if I didnt get it free then I'd move to another provider

whats all this about being able to access home pc's and stuff with it ? can anyone point me in the right direction for free software and stuff (not illegal though) or pm me some URL's.

Hopefully will get it next week sometime.

Phil

PS, I've heard it can be used for say nav.. does it have a CF slot ?

You can get the P900 on Orange for free on a £70 per month contract, then down grade tariff.

O2 was doing a free P900 on £45 per month but thats finished now

So you mean it has a 'proper' HTML capable browser on it so I can browse Scoobynet on it for example?

www.my-symbian.com is a good place for downloading (legal) software, and a good source of info too. To access your home pc you need to use "VNC" - you need to also be running VNC on your home machine, and be online of course, but then when you connect from your P800/P900 you will see your PC desktop on the P800/900 and you can control it.

So you mean it has a 'proper' HTML capable browser on it so I can browse Scoobynet on it for example?
Yeah exactly that. You normally need to scroll around a bit because the P800/900 has a small screen, but some sites like bbc news have PDA versions of their main site which is useful.

Surely there is a minimum term at £70/mnth, otherwise everyone would do that then downgrade striaght away to the cheapest??

Min term is usually 4 months (is on Orange anyway, think it might be more in Vodafone from memory)

Been reading some reviews on it, sounds like a great device.
Bit expensive to buy at the mo imho.
Lets hope this 'special offer' comes good...

u can downgrade after a month on voda IIRC - bit of a loophole, but they charge more for the phone, i.e. not 70 quid with orange but more like 240+

I've had one since November. Its a great phone.

I use Opera a lot (20meg+ a month).

Plusses:
HTML browsing is very good, especially with Opera.
Diary is very good.
It backs up, as well as Sync's. I have a had a replacement (after dropping it)and on reload, it became an identically set up phone.
I like using the handwriting recognition for text input. Lots faster than buttons but slower than a well worn T9.
Video is also good (Mpeg4)

Minusses:
The phone directory is dire. No primary number allocation, difficult to add incoming/dialled number to existing contact, no directory T9 search.
Internal memory not big enough.
Out going voice occasionally worse than batt/signal level would indiacte.

If this phone had the SPV directory functions it would be perfect.

Overall: 9/10
