Default Harrogate to Chester, best route?

Journey to take place on friday afternoon at 4pm (yeah, I know, worst time etc. but I have no choice).

I wil be starting at Harrogate and going to Chester. How long should this take and what route is best?

The options I have are as follows:
1 - Down to Leeds then M62/M60/M62 to the M6 nr Warrington then onto the M56 to Chester
2 - Down to Leeds, then down the M1 to Barnsley, then across the A628 to Stockport and then onto the M56 to Chester
3 - A59 to Skipton then the A6068 to the M65 then down to the M6 down to the M56 then to Chester.

Which is best? Or are there better routes? I'd prefer to avoid going into towns if poss. Problem I have is no knowledge of these roads so don't know how well these A roads flow (or the motorways for that matter!)

I *may* have to go via Leeds to pick someone up.

Thanks in advance

I'd personally go with No 1 and grin and bear the godawful traffic.

Be sure and wave as you pass Runcorn (fecking big chemical plant on your right on the M56) followed by the home of Optimax: Shell Stanlow

Yeah, go with No.1, I go that way all the time (from Ripon) but never on a Friday! Good luck.

IMHO option 1 or 3 but NOT 2

With Option 1 come off the M62 at Jcn 18 and go south on the M60 (clockwise around Manchester) untill the M56, its sign posted for Chester.

Dont go anti-clockwise around Manchester to get to the M56 especially on a Friday.

All from my past experiences when I was driving 60,000 miles a year!

N0 3 but staying on the A59 until it joins the M6 (much quicker than the M65 route)

Only 1 Camera to watch for - just after a 3 fiqure straight 3 - 5 miles after Clitheroe, The other cameras are for peeps heading the other way - not that you speed of course !

What are the big traffic hot spots?

So far I have - avoid going anti-clockwise round Manchester.
What are the others? Are there any junctions I should really avoid etc?

thanks.
