Depending on the time of day the quickest route would probably be through Chew Magna, Keynsham and then onto Batheaston on the A4.
A taxi driver would probably take you on a more main road route, not sure on price but it could take upto an hour to do the journey.

a) miles away from bristol
b) miles away from any train stations
I guess there must be buses from the airport into Bristol and you could get a train from there, but it would take ages

The more I think about it, taxi is probably your best (and most expensive

I always use Airportcarz direct from the airport, its usually about 20 quid to Bristol and you rarley have to wait as there is always cars waiting.

Cheapest is possibly taxi to Nailsea and Backwell train station (5 miles) and then train to Bath (need to change trains at Bristol Temple Meads though)
Might take a long time if during the day as trains aren't that frequent outside of rush hours (see trainline.com) and then you have to get to Batheaston from Bath station, which is a good few miles so that's another taxi or a bus :-)
AirportCarz sound the best if not the cheapest...

p.s. blame corrupt Bristol C(sh)ity Council for insisting Lulsgate airport (miles from anywhere) became Bristols main airport instead of Filton which is right at the junction of M4/M5 and a mile from Bristol Parkway Station!

cheers for all the info guys. seems like there aren't too many transport facilities about. i wonder if it would be cheaper (or even possible!) to hire a car for the day. just need to drive to bath and back.

ended up with a 1.4 astra or similar for £49. £52 gets a 1.8 vectra. £42 gets a ka.
all these include £6 extra because i'm under 25.
