No you see, I'll just do the training, which means I'll get to examine all the fit modles, which is really
..
..then when they want me to get a degree in it, I'll say to them that I'm not examining all the gerriaterics (
)! So then I'll simply jack off, opps, I mean bugger off (
) and they'll make me do the training again![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I never really made a conscious decision - at each point when I had to make a choice it was usually the case of, 'what can I do that people will actually pay me to do?' or 'of the available options, what could I put up with?'
So, at GSCE and A-level time I chose sciences over arts because I enjoyed them and found them much easier. Then I chose my degree subject (electronics) because it was about the only subject I wasn't completely fed up with. When I graduated I found myself an electronic engineer - not through a conscious choice, but more like a headless blunder. Over the last couple of years I've realised that I think I'd rather be a photographer - but that's hard to get into and doesn't pay half as well, so I stick at it.
How old are you, and what choice do you face next?

i am 18 at the mo, 9 GCSE's and no A-levels due to faults of my own plus the place in which i studied for my a-levels. i was thinking of doing some sort of courses in september to better myself cus i am an able person but my heart just hasnt been init the past two years. i believe one of my problems is not having a job to aim for as money alone does not drive me in the slightest

Your outlook on work and life has far more influence on job satisfaction than the work itself. Very few people end up doing something that they would in all honesty do if they had a choice... some end up bitter and others get on and make the most of it. Guess who the guys that get to the top are?
You need to get off your **** and do something - and whatever it is, do it with pride and aim to do it better than the people you work with. Be humble, listen to others even if you disagree, take personal responsibility when things don't work out and concentrate on what you could do better.
Just my tuppenceworth...

I took GCSE's in subjects that I enjoyed (mostly, had to do English
) without knowing what I really wanted to do, except do A-levels to get to Uni. I then did AS and A-levels in subjects I enjoyed (Chemistry AS, Maths, Physics and Geography A level) and am now almost through my first year of a Geography degree. I have no idea what I want to do, although I have got ideas of teaching. If I still don't know what I want to do on graduation then I'll go on and do a Masters or something which will give me more time to decide, plus with more people being able to get degrees (government's fault IMHO) they're not worth as much, so the Masters will be an advantage when I finally get a job.
All this could easily change tho!

i know alot of people at the mo with degrees that work in McDonalds cus they cant get jobs anywhere else due to lack of experience, which to me is scary biscuits.
there is even a girl i work with, with a bio-chemistry degree/master something that cant get a job anywhere so shes stuck in a supermarket getting 4.20 an hour. how crap
university i dont think is the way forward anymore.

There's too many people getting degrees nowadays, and a large number of the degrees are, IMHO, in stupid subjects. The government should never have decided to up the number of people the wanted in higher education. It seems that now it is not wether you have a degree, but where you got the degree from.

I left school at 18 with a handful of qualifications but no idea of what do to.
Drifted into banking. Snore. Then after 4 years I saw an advert for Air traffic control, thought 'That looks interesting,' and so applied. It helped that the training wage was a 50% percent pay rise over my bank salary.![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
12 years later and I still enjoy it.
There's a lot to be said for job satisfaction and nothing as soul destroying as being in a job you hate. Sometimes, even if it's a risk, you have to step into the unknown.
Good luck,
Blobster

I've kind of stumbled into my jobs:
GCSE's mostly science based as I wanted to be architect
A-Levels Design Technology, Maths and Physics, still wanted to be an architect
After applying to universities, I realised that I didn't have the artistic skills or the patience for a 7 year degree course!! I was advised to take an engineering degree.
I did BEng. (Hons) Integrated Engineering Systems, with elements of mechanical, electrical, electronic, business, computing, CAD CAM etc engineering!
I decided after my second year I didn't want to get my hands dirty!!!![Embarrassment](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/redface.gif)
Finished the degree and got a temp job in a Dye Importers as an Accounts Administrator with IT responsibility.
I then I got a job and moved up (not bad in 5.5 years):
Logistics Administrator
Logistics Manager
Help Desk & Logistics Manager
Field Engineer
Systems Engineer
Senior Systems Engineer
E-business Consultant
I was them made redundant and tried my hand at being an IT Systems Consultant.
Tried working for a Subaru Tuning Company.
Then I got a job as an IT Manager!!
The thing is, I don't know if I still want to work in IT (after doing it for 9 years) But I'm not sure want I actually want to turn my hand to!! I guess at 31 years old, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up!!!

I might have all of those and qualifications in IT, but if I don't want a career in IT or Engineering, I would have to start from scratch!!!
