Default Mobile Phone Q

Currently have a company mobile. Company is ceasing to exist and I want to retain the number. I can't take on the contract directly but I can transfer the number apparently.

I've got a perfectly good handset I'm happy to use - so only really need a new sim. I'd like a monthly contract because I cant be faffing with PAYG but dont want to tie myself in for a year.

It is possible to buy just the sim, on a monthly contract without a minimum of 1 year - and then get my number transferred ?

Phone up the mobile company and explain the situation, you can get a PUK code from them which will allow you to trandser your number to any other phone or network. Your current company will also been keen to keep your business and give you a sim and monthly contract for no cost, especially if you want to keep your phone. Phone companies spend a fortune giving out monthly contract handsets for free, they still have to buy them from the maunfacturer.

if they dont offer it, you could always get a 1 year tie-in contract with a free phone, as generally the first few months are at a reduced rate, and you could sell the new phone for quite a lot.

in fact, between the first 3-6 months half price and the sale of the phone, your year's tarriff is probably almost paid.
