Default Does anybody collect books ? Help needed please.

Bit of a long tale but bear with me.
My Ma & Pa have just noticed a shelf in the loft has fallen over and deposited and load of books on the floor.
Now rather than replace the shelf I've talked them into getting shut.
First thought was a trip to the tip, but some are very old (1850 - 1940) and are in very good condition (altough a little dusty) so they may be worth something.
Others are annuals (Beano, Dandy etc) from the mid 80's.
I have them (Ma & Pa) listing titles, authors, dates etc (gives the old dear something to do of an evening) and was wondering if a expert or keen amature could look at the list and tell me if I'm about to chuck a first edition on the tip.
Its a strange request for Snet - but you never know !

Chris
P.s. I'm about to go on holiday for a week so may not respond while away.

...if you have a set of anything may well be worth something to a collector- also 1st editions. internet has opened up market considerably -dealers finding collectors from around the world .last year we inherited place -and had to clear in a hurry before being sold large house inc study full o books- mainly specialist ref. books.but also sets of various. Really didnt know what to keep or what - in the end kept about 7 large boxes each- and then called in `valuer` (who was in fact dealer-would not come to look without buying) -we helped him fill the back o his old merc with books till his axles were creakin -and he gave us 400 notes . I rather suspect he will quadraple his outlay -and possibly a lot more if he finds something rare there - unfortunatley we just didnt have the time . My advce is store all if you have the space and do some serious reaserch

No idea, but if you are planning on throwing them away, we might take some of them off your hands if there are any interesting ones. When I say interesting I mean as in subject matter. If you can make some money on them then go ahead, but don't chuck em!

PM/email me a list of what you have as myself and a colleague like old books

Titles, authors and years would be great (if you aren't keeping them). No probs if you are, just don't like to see literature go to waste

Ditto what Hanslow said.

He just said it first so I guess he gets first dibs

Otherwise if you have the time and space, store them and stick the lot on e-bay. You never know...

SB,

If I get the chance to have some, I will take what interests me so I would imagine there will still be some left over

All academic of course if you sell them
