In fairness to Ms Dynamite she has had a baby, so probably a little occupied at the moment I would generally agree with the others though.

Polly Harvey's been around for years, has always gone her own way. She was never going to be a commercial success, but then as she didn't set out to be one, it's not really much of a surprise. It's not her fault she was given a prize, and to her credit she's not changed her approach one iota as a result of it.
I've seen her live a couple of times - mesmerising, though a tad on the intense side.
Mind you, Dizzee Rascal is ****e.

That's the point though, none of these people were ever remotely mainstream, just got some publicity. If they appeal to a very small fanbase and don't play the fame game, then having their faces in the national press/tv for a couple of weeks is only ever going to add a few new fans, but it'll never make them mainstream artistes.
Most people just don't 'get' PJ Harvey, in the same way as I really can't see why anyone would give the time of day to anything by Dizzee Rascal, Ms Dynamite ... or indeed Dido (the blandest woman in the entire universe).

Polly Harvey is still alive and well and living where she's always lived. I'd forgot she'd won the prize too. And I think old Ronnie Size is still around somewhere. He was another who had the prize 'thrust' upon him.

I'd agree that Dido maybe bland, but she sells albums by the bucket load. Don't forget the biggest album buying market is 25 - 40 year olds. That's the market Dido is aimed at. How many copies did her first album sell? 11 million? I bet the record company loves her.

That is about as mainstream as you get.

Polly Harvey was on the last Jools Holland series. I've always liked most of what she's done, although, as moose says, she is a bit intense at times.
Don't forget Badly Drawn Boy he's definitely on the over-rated side of sh!te.
Oh, yeah, and Gomez, if it wasn't for Moloko's 'Things To Make and Do', 'Bring It On' would be the worst CD I own

You could play Venom to the entire world for an infinite period and they'd still not sell any more copies of Welcome To Hell. After all, there's a limit to the number of people who want to hear something that sounds like two pigs grunting over the top of drums/bass/guitar being hammered to death at doublespeed!

Moose, what I said (or meant to convey) in my original post was that shortly after winning the Prize you don't hear from the winners unless you go out looking for it. So they disappear off most peoples radar pretty quickly.
So I guess we agree anyway.
