Default Digi camera - buying in Tenerife????

Seen a Sony DSC-P10 5.0 mega pixels for 325 euros - is that a good price?

More importantly is it a good camera?

Would I be covered by an European guarantee type thing?

Cool

I have a DSC P10 at work. Seems good for point and click but I'm no David Bailey....

Cheapest I can find in the UK is £253 which is approx €380. I'd forget any warranty unless its got documentation for Pan european. A lot of their stuff comes from the states and some of its dodgy. Buy at your peril.... If you do get it, open it and make sure it works before you leave the shop... Been there, got the teeshirt so to say

See the Jessops website front page under "Warning to holidays makers in the Canary Islands". Was also covered on Watchdog last year.

If you're talking about Jessops, theres a chain in the Canaries operating under the same name claiming to be part of the UK group. They are in fact ,surprise surprise, nothing to do with them whatsoever. i.e. they are claiming that if you get a fault just take it to Jessops in the UK. When that occurs you find that the camera or whatever was sourced outside the EU and therefore has no warranty.....

I stayed Puerto Reco in Gran Canaria a few years ago (Dump). In the main square where all the pubs and stuff are is an electrical shop run by Asians. The shop is immediately left of the white tourist information box as you walk into the square (if it's still there). They had a video camera in the window at a very good price, I did my homework and went in to purchase it. Would they sell it to me, would they f**k. They took the money and then tried to sell me another that looked about ten years old. After about an hour of arguments telling him I wanted the one in the window and having all the brothers round me trying to intimidate me they chucked most of my money at me. They kept about £30 quid and gave me a few tapes saying I wasted there time.
Unfortunately I was flying out the next day but I did go to the Police station and file a complaint.

Be very careful

Oh and if anyone is out there go in and smash something.

If you're looking to buy electrical/electronic goods in Tenerife, go to Visanta, it's a well known chain in the Canaries and it's where the locals buy their TV's and stuff. They also have a price promise. Don't know about warranty situation, though.
