Anyone know exactly how HID lighting systmns work ?? know I understand the bit about the arc off light, balust ( ?? ) etc, etc, etc !! but what makes the colour appear to go from white to blue to purple etc ?? !! and yet at other times the light appears as a normal white output !!
is the light colour actually changing ?? or is it your posistion to the light, ie your own car getting closer, changing angles, etc that gives off this ever changing colour output ?? if so, why come some HID light systmns seem to give out a more purple / blue haze than others ?? like the new corsa`s etc ??
regards,

It's not actually the light given off by the HID capsule at all that dictates this. It's because most HID systems sit behind a prejector lens. This acts as a prism and splits some of the light into its primary colours, and is why the hue can change depending which angle the light/car is at, and thus which angle you are viewing the prism effect at

I of course meant projector lens in my original post, not prejector
- the one that looks like half a crystal ball. You will get a similar light effect from cars fitted with projector lenses but no HID - UK STi for example
