I was snapped by a gatso today doing about 37 in a 30, I understand I will have an automatic letter what will I need to produce with the fine. I just bought the car yestarday off a relative, I am driving it on my fully comp insurance so will I be covered third party on this car although its no longer insured by the previous owner, please advise, im worried incase i have screwed up insurance knowledge and end up being charged with no insurance..

 

They dont ask for proof of insurance. They only want the paper work signed and £60. Thats all they care about. Dont even ask for MOT

 

You never know you might get away with it.not all have film in it.if not arrived within 2 weeks,you should be OK.

But you say you just got it of a relative so i would assume they still have your relatives details on the car log book...

Looks like they may get done not you.

Just hope 2 weeks pass and you are fine.

Or you can stay in your house for 2 weeks refusing to accept mail.
Or seal your letterbox up and leave a message outside reading postman do not deliver any mail please etc.

If you aint received the letter then you cannot legally reply to something you know nothing about.

 

time to get some sort of protection mate!!......

 

i suggest some insurance, it could of been worse. you might of smashed it up and found out you were not covered (some policys require the car to be insured from the owner that you borrowed it from)

 

If the car is not insured by the previous owner any longer then you will probably find that your insurance will not cover you. Most state that the car must be an insured vehicle for your third party cover to be valid. Not a problem concerning the speeding but get it insured. Quick!
My top tip (personally tested) is that if you do get a letter in the post, and it's not sent by recorded delivery, ignore it. They can't prove you recieved it. IF they pursue it then tell them that your dog my have eaten it, apologise and take your punishment like a man. I didn't recieve any further mail on the subject.
