Wasp's nest !!!!!!!!!
#1
![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Well, I reckon we've got one here, somewhere, as I've killed 18
in our house in the last two days, and 2 in the bathroom this morning
, and they are BIG b*ggers!
(Sometimes I stun 'em, and drop them into a big garden spider's web...........now there's a fight worth seeing!!)
:
I've been all round the house with binocs, checking all the eaves, roof etc, and been round the garden, but can't find the nest.![Confused](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Anyone got any brilliant ideas for finding it?

Might be worth looking about the vent bricks in the lower parts of your walls, my folks had one in there years ago, I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of wasps about then noticed the beggers crawling in and out of the foundation vent brick
, got pest control in gassed the beggers ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Not in the loft space, AFAICS. Just been up with a torch and the fluorescents on, and there was ONE wasp up there flying about the fluorescents, another enormous one, but no nests anywhere I could see, and the only buzzing is from the lone wasp, which is still up there, without me
:
Going out to check all vent bricks now.

I had a nest last year in the loft. I counted 40 wasps in my bedroom but had no idea how they were getting there initially.
I sat for a while and watched them come through the ceiling light rose so I sealed it first then called in the waspinator.

We don't appear to be getting them in this house, probably helped by actively encouraging the spider population

We had one hidden in the bushes, wasn't noticed until I was getting my push bike out of the shed and clipped the bush- one nasty bugger stung me on the jaw, so check in the bushes, they're not easy to see. Plus it could be in a neighbours place?

Depends on where that ceiling rose is. I went in my study one evening to find about 20-30 of the buggers flying around. Very scary so me and a mate thwacked the lot of them with rolled-up newspapers while bevvied up. Had to redecorate afterwards as I'd splatted the wall so much!
Next day I noticed a couple more crawling through the ceiling rose. There is a small loft above my ground floor study, and I wore my safety mask and goggles
carefully checked in the hatch but no wasps buzzing around and no nest in sight. They were just using it as a thoroughfare from outside. What they were attracted to I don't know...
Next day was mowing the lawn and managed to mow over the ******* nest. It was behind a dry stone wall in our garden and when the flymo went over the nest these guys went mental!!![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)

Apparently I really scared the neighbours kids running down the garden flailing like a windmill screaming at the beggars to gerroffame. LOL. Managed to get some stuck in my T-shirt so was stung![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Checking through the windows that afternoon, I couldn't believe how many wasps were toing and froing from the nest, and how I didn't notice before. Rang the waspinator and job done. Came round with his mad togs and much as though they tried they couldn't get to him while he gassed the ******* lot. No more wasps. (Tell the neighbours to shut windows and stay in while doing this, unless you don't like them
)
Last year noticed a few trying to settle in the stone wall next to my study window. Got myself some foam wasp killer from B&Q and sprayed that into the entrance. Seemed to sort them out but this wasn't a major nest in the same way (didn't stop me wearing a balaclava and goggles though
)
Best of luck. Destroy all wasps.

Found it yet Alcazar??

I remember now that we had wasp trouble last year - we could see them flying about and it turned out they were under a flat roof of a bay window in next door's house. They didn't have any idea they were there until we pointed out the black stream of flying nastiness going too and fro!

Get a little man in to destroy the nest (yelllow pages?).
You don't really want to be in the loft, or any other space come to that, if you don't know what you're doing and disturb the nest instead of destroy it.
We had one in the eaves a couple of years ago. Sorted out by the local wasp killer chap.
The professionals use a much stronger spray than the public are able to buy.

Definitely worth perservering and finding out where the nest is, you don't want happening what happened to a friend.
He was in his lounge (top floor flat) when he could hear what sounded like a scratching noise. He walked around trying to hear where it was coming from and he worked out it was the ceiling. He reached up to put his hand against the plasterboard to "feel" the scratching noise, but his hand went straight through and a wasps nest, bigger than a football and no longer supported by the paper skin of the plasterboard, fell though and onto him![Embarrassment](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/redface.gif)
It was about 10pm on a Sunday night and several thousand wasps were rather ticked off about having their sleep disturbed. As he ran out of the lounge closing the door behind him he witnessed his lounge turn black with thousands of angry wasps. He realised he would have to call on someone like Rentokill to come and sort the problem out. Just one problem, guess where the phone was? Oh and his car keys, wallet etc.
The long and the sort of it is they discovered about 6 wasps nests in a small loft space above his lounge, 3 of which were active.
It's worth getting it sorted while you can do it on your own terms. May sound unlikely, but a call to the council would probably be a good first step, they have people who regulalry deal with removing wasps nests.

We had a wasp's nest in our shed some years ago - my dad sprayed the whole thing with half a can of spray paint and it held them inside whilst the fumes killed them off!
sorted![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
(if you can find the nest - is it under the eves of the roof?)

I think the council may well sort the problem out for you, depending on where the nest is. If it's in the house/loft, call the council to check and see. As our wasp nest was in the garden we had to pay a private company dude in a radiation suit £30-£40 IIRC.

this might sound daft - but wait until early evening (sunset), this is when they head home after a hard days graft (bit like humans
)
You are then more likely to spot them congreating - for a landing spot! Once they are all in bed - kill 'em!!!
