If you have six points before taking your test?

Not anyone I know, but a query from my eldest son who takes his test Wednesday.
He wants to know the s/n opinion of what would happen if you had 6 points on your license BEFORE you took your test?
As you are all aware, if you GET 6 points after taking, and passing the test, but in your first year of driving, you have to take another test, so what would happen in my scenario?

It SEEMS to be saying that they'd revoke your license immediately it was granted, and you'd revert back to being a learner, and have to take ANOTHER test, but that doesn't make much sense.![Confused](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Anyone else with a view?
The website isn't all that clear................I don't suppose they feel anyone would be in this position, but some must be?

well the licence is revoked when the points are aquired, so if the points were there prior to aquiring the licence, surely that would be just the same as the re test.

You'd lose the licence straight away so no point in taking the test. My instructor told me as she had a pupil who got 6 point for crossing a road (from one field to another) riding a motorbike. The cops saw and he got 6 points on his provisional, and as soon as he would have passed his test, he would have lost the licence.

edited to add- It's in the frist 2 years not 1 that you can lose the licence with 6 points

A friend passed his test with 6 points on his licence, and recieved a full licence. A few months after passing he ran a red light and recieved a nip. When he sent his licence away to be endorsed it wasn't returned and he had to re-sit his test.

Good job the laws changed for me, back in 89 I had 11 points of my provisional licence.
Should seen my driving instructors face when he turned up for my first car driving lesson, asked to look at my licence and said, "Who's been a busy boy then?!"

I had 7 points on my provisional (from a moped
), btw I passed my test after 5 lessons first time ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As the law stands currently you can aquire upto 12 points prior to passing your test and still pass it and hold a full licence, however if you have carry more than 6 points from a provisional and aquire any more in the first 2 years of driving you will be forced to retake your test.
Hope that helps, btw insurance was always a little excessive, as I have always had my own policy and hotch hatches, anyway 5 years NCB helps with the current scoob
