Smile Bookshelf speakers advice please

I'm buying a TEAC Reference 300 system and was looking at (or should that be listening to) speakers to go with it.

Two seem to stand out - KEF Cresta 10 and MISSION M31 - both seem to suit my requirements, but not yet having listened to the two sets, does anyone have any advice or opinions on them, or are there others in that price range I should perhaps consider ?

I'm obviously not after massive volume, just nice tight sound, strong bass with plenty of detail. Listen to most types of music through dance/club right through to rock/metal - although no jazz

If anyone has a TEAC Ref 300, what speakers are you using with it...?

Cheers
Gareth

If you can afford them , a pair of Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage are near perfection.

Well, the real clue is in your first sentence - 'listening to' should be top of your to-do list!

FWIW, though, Dynaudio have some pretty special small speakers - they have an exceptionally clean and detailed sound with good bass extension, although I found them a bit too clinical for some types of music and ended up going with Monitor Audio instead. Both makes are well worth a listen IMHO.

although that would be overkill for the teac system. B&W 601s or KEF Crestas would be worth considering - you should be able to pick up a s/h pair for not too much. i still use an old pair of wharfdale delta 30s for my kitchen. only cost me £50 about 15 years ago - still sound very respectable.

Thanks for the advice...it was really to have a starting point or short list of speakers to audition, but its also a case of some real world advice rather than dealers chat.

I'm not after the ultimate in hifi, I'm not that serious about the setup - just want a good sounding, good looking, simple setup which the Teac seems to offer.

I'd advise Dynaudio too, except that they'll set you back almost as much as the TEAC stuff:

Have listen to some other Mission stuff, 780 or 78, can't remember which, impressed me for the size, and also the small Quads if you can find any.
