Angry Orange phone insurance SUCKS !

[rant mode on]
Just got off the phone with Orange customer services, as I lost my phone on Friday night and wanted to arrange for a replacement. I explained to the girl that I was in a restaurant on Friday night, and on Saturday morning when I checked my pocket, my phone wasn't there. After checking at the restaurant and the hotel reception, I called them to cancel the phone, as I was in the states and any calls made from it would have cost me a mint !
Anyway, she told me that because the phone wasn't in a secure pocket, the insurance was invalid! For the last 5 years I've kept my phone in the front pocket of my jeans, and till this weekend I've never had any trouble so I'd have said that was fairly secure! Whether it fell out or I was pick pocketed I don't know, but if insurance doesn't cover this, what does it cover ??
(anyone who knows me knows that I lost my phone at Christmas, but I was pretty drunk and I probably just left it on a table somewhere - I didn't claim on insurance that time - I just paid the money for a replacement and was hard sold the insurance at that point !! Ironic !!)

What makes this even worse was that I called yesterday to try and sort it out and was told my claim was invalid because I couldn't tell the girl exactly when I last used the phone. I said some point on Friday night, but couldn't give an exact time. She then called me a liar (in PC terms of course) and informed me that according to her records I hadn't used it since Wednesday and the fact that I was a liar meant that the insurance wouldn't cover me (no mention of insecure pockets from that girl). I talked to 4 friends today, and all of them received txts from me on Friday confirming that I wasn't completely mad and hadn't imagined it all !! I was calling back tonight to point out that their "records" were incorrect, and try and find out what I should do about it when I was hit with the 'insecure pocket' excuse.

I'm pretty fuming, and Orange will not be getting any more business from me (my cancellation letter is in the post already). Has anyone else had similar problems with this company or any other. Is the insurance worth the paper it's written on ?? I've been with them for 5 years, and never claimed before !

[rant mode off]
If you're still awake after my rant, please comment !

That's strange as I've had no probs with orange insurance & always got a replacement within 2 days, even when I've lost it due to being pissed up lol.

I've had no problems with Orange phone insurance, other matters I have though! I tend to ask to speak to someone who can help me, after ranting at the first person who I speak to. Keep on at them and they will do what you want to. If your bills are quite large each month, threaten them with leaving, and give them the old speel about looking after their customers. Seems to work with me!

Good luck.

Maybe you got through to a bad one
Orange phone insurance has been great for me.
Lost/Damaged 3 phones in last year, all replaced within 24 hours, one was even delivered on a sunday evening!

same **** that happened to me with carphone warehouse.

because i didnt know where i lost my phone that invalidated my insurance - go figure, like most insurance companies they are all con artists.

you will now have to buy yourself out of the contract, however many months you have left at the line rental price, then buy a new contract. or pay a **** load for a mobile and stay with orange on that contract

I think orange have replaced 3 phones for me, last one was because my dog had chewed the phone, he had removed it from my coat pocket while my coat was hung on the back of a chair, when I phoned up to claim I was told that had it not been in my pocket they wouldnt have replaced it.

I'm with Orange, and haven't had to claim....yet! I've been with them for nearly three years. My last upgrade was February last year, so since then whenever I've been into the Orange shop (I pay the bill in there) they ask me about upgrading (this means renewing the contract). But now I don't think I will because as it stands at the moment, if I lose the phone and they don't give me a new one, I can just walk away with no worries about the contract.

A friend lost her orange phone in a pub, and orange insurance told her that it wasn't covered because their insurance doesn't cover the phone while it;s on licenced premises. Mad.

When I was with Orange they were fine also. One phone the battery came loose so they just sent me a new one. Other time I put my mobile in the washing machine by mistake and killed it. Again no questions asked, new phone sent within 48hrs.
