Default omega 300 M GMT

Anyone got one? are they reliable and robust? How do they compare to the quality of an Explorer II (of which, I've had 2 - and they both lost 8 seconds a day). opinions appreciated.

I have an Omega Seamaster Pro , A Rolex Datejust and a Submariner and yes I would say that the quality of the Omega is comparable to the Rolexes , mine gains about 4 seconds a day but it is relatively new and should improve with time

I have an Omega Speedmaster...

It stopped after a year with dry internals... fixed free but took 6 weeks...

It looses a few minutes a week, which is frustrating for a £1200 quid time piece, but it does look and feel the dogs...

It's a kinetic and wind up and I've had it 18 months or so..so it may loosen up and get better with age... bit like me

I've got a manual wind Speedmaster (the moon watch) and i'd guess it's about 1 or 2 seconds a day fast, pretty impressive for a non-COSC mechanical. It was about 30 seconds a day fast for the first week but then seemed to settle down, i haven't adjusted it for at least a couple of months and it's only about a minute or two fast at the moment.

Omegas rock!

Before you do that check out the possibility og buying mail order from the US , I got my SMP Auto for £500 ( RRP £1100 ) , cheaper prices over there and helped by the good exchange rate ( though it was $1.90 when I bought )

I negotiated 15% off my Speedmaster in Watches of Switzerland (Cardiff), so they could be worth a shot. Basically i told them that another dealer (Thomas's of Skipton) was doing them at that price (which was true) and they offered to match the price, as long as i bought it there and then.

Sometimes it pays to ask!

Mine's over 30 years old and is much that same as yours in terms of timekeeping. It had a service recently at WatchDoctor in Tring and since then (2 months) I've not adjusted it. It's approx 1 minute slow at present, a level of accuracy I'm perfectly happy with.

There is around a 40 - 60% markup on omega in the jewelers. If you ask you can expect a 20% discount straight away on most models. I have bought 3 in the last 2 years and have managed to get 20% 25% and a 38% discount. All from official dealers. If you have a look on www.blitzwatches.com you can get similar discounts (but no Omega Warranty). My advice would be to do your homework, take an afternoon off and go around as many dealers as you can, playing them against each other. Avoid the weekends as this is their busier times

I had one, and sold it to Andy(something 172?) from this BBS.

Maybe he will post, and tell you of his problems.

I found the watch strap came open on its own, its got two compression buttons on the clasp and when you move your wrist it opens. The slide on the clasp is very delicate and nothing like the SeaMasters.

I liked the look of the watch, and the 24hr pointer was nice. I was impressed with the luminicity of the watch, it was like wearing a torch on your wrist.

But Andy had problems with the watch and had to send it back to Omega, who refunded him with the purchase price. It gained or lost an hour every now and again, not a few minutes or half an hour but exactly an hour ?

I personally would not buy this model.

PS. It never gained or lost an hour in the few months that I owned the watch, in fact it was a good time keeper, but having lots of watches I think I only wore it a dozen times.
Just thought Id clear that up.....

PPS. Andy if your reading, Im still waiting for the pics of the Panerai.

Fosters,

If I was you (which Im not), I would have a look in " FOR SALE " where I have BTTT'ed a Breitling Navitimer, which is for sale at a very good price.......

Too good to be true in fact.

I have spoken to the owner and I am 100% sure the watch is genuine, dont get too excited though, it may have been SOLD.

This Breitling is circa £3200 new, and is for sale at less than the RRP of the Omega GMT......Go on you know you want to.

the breitling looks like a bargain, but the face is a little busy for me.

I like a masculine looking watch, but plain like the explorer IIs or the above omega. doesn't look like i'll go for this omega model (is it just that model that may have problems?).

Any other suggestions? pics would be helpful too.

You dont like busy faces, whats up with you ?

So chronographs are out, but you like 'masculine watches'.

Hows about.........

Something from the Breitling Aerospace collection.

Or the Avenger Seawolf range.

Have a look at www.poljot.com some of their Aerospace range are stunning, check out the specs and the prices.

If you like the ExplorerII why not get one, some bargains on E-bay at the moment.

My favourite Poljot at the minute is the Ruslan Chrono Blue Angel, blue face st.steel strap and glass back.

$390.....hard to believe all that for less that 300 quid.

Told you.

Nice.

One on Ebay at the moment item number 4109559160 £620 reserve met.

Have a little look at the Emergency series, absolutely huge watches, with loads of gadgets and beer drinking talking points. Get a lift home in a big yellow helicopter.
