Question number plate Help

is there a legal size that a number plate has to be?

A mate has just paid an huge sum for a plate "three letters and a number".

Dose he have to use the standard size plate that's designed for 7 letters?

As long as the spacing at letter/number size is legal then the back can be smaller.

From what i remember, there has to be a certain height/width/thickness for the letters, specific spacing between the letters and a set border top/bottom/left & right.

So, in theory if u have the reg "A1", you 'should' be able to put it on a really small numberplate, providing you follow the guidelines for spacing/borders, etc.

doesn't it miff you when you see bikes with plates the size of a gnat's crack??? If you had to read one of those as part of your driving test, you'd be screwed!!
