Default Kids making their own breakfast

My eight year old makes himself toast, very domesticated and stuff, this morning I was reading the paper and he makes some toast, he says to me, 'Dad can I open this new butter', I dont look up but say yes, thinking nothing of it, until

five minutes later he comes to me and says, 'Dad, this butter isnt very nice', he also looked a bit green, I looked at it and it looked ok, apart from a small white peak of unmelted 'butter', so we go back in the kitchen, there is a pound of freshly opened LARD with the corner missing.....

Hmmm, the war ended almost 50 years ago (2nd world war that is) dont think modern 8 year olds are very well up on techniques to stretch rations !

A guy I worked with a few years ago still ate bread and dripping sarnies. Strangely he wasnt fat either.
