Hi All,
Its with a heavy heart I write this. As you may or may not know we have two cats a ginger one and a tortoiuse shell like one. On Wednesday night one went out and didnt come back and wasnt here the next morning. I came home at lunch and still no sign of it so we looked for it and knocked on some doors. We even showed a bad photo round because a guy had picked up a dead cat earlier that day. He said no it wasn't ours and we were so relieved. He'd put the corpse in the bin.
I did hundreds of posters and we did the entire estate, we did absolutly everything we could. Then we got some replies from our posters saying it was our cat that had been got. I don't quite know how to explain how it feels. I just burst into tears and ran into the server room and sobbed and sobbed until a female member of staff comforted me a bit.
The finality of it all, knowing we wont see that lovely cat again, and have it nudge us when it wants feeding, its beyond words. Id give everything I own, scooby, pc, everything just to have her back.
We dont even have a body to bury. If I ever got the tw*t I really really would beat them to death and I 100% kin mean it.
On the positive side, we did get some closure and we know that it was quick, rather than at the mercy of yobs or anything. But its so destroying. I cant even stop crying. To some people they are just cats but to me, they mean as much to me as kids do to some people. I know it sounds silly buts its very true.
Does anyone have any ideas how we can honour it, or make sure she isnt forgotten ?
RIP Cindy

Sorry to hear that m8, just hope this thread isnt overrun by the usual arseholes. Same thing happened to us, we took our cat and burried him in near by woods, a nice bit where we walk, no room in the garden tbo and I wouldnt fancy digging him up by mistake.
All the best.
All the best.

I know how you feel mate, my cat (Arnold) had to be put down this time last year!!! I still get upset about it from time to time, when I see a picture or the children talk about him. He was cremated and we have his ashes in a wooden box (or at least Ex wife has him, along with everyother thing in our house) I think being upset and crying does make you feel better, and you shouldn't take any notice of what some people may say on here about it all. I like you, feel strongly for animals, and as you say they become part of the family.
Gutted for you mate
At least you still have the other one.

most people won't understand, but a pet is a pet and you spend time looking after them etc, growing attached.. it's only natural to miss their presence when they are no longer with us.

do you think a big donation to the cat protection league is a good idea ? Any other ideas, we though perhaps a nice tree or something ? The sad thing is that the other one is waiting at the door for it to come home

My pets are like members of the family to me and i cry my eyes out if my rabbit gets ill. Alot of people would think i'm totally stupid but those animals have really comforted me through upsetting times in my life.
Hope you feel better soon.
Edited to add: i used to bury my pets and plant something nice over them to remember they are there

Stuey that would be a nice gesture, my GF does a lot of work for the CPL and they need every bit of help they get. Dont let this put you off looking after another cat, the cats we look after are all strays and it's good to give them a kind home no matter what is said in this thread.

I also had a look at the other pics, mint cats, unusual to see two cats that get on so well. Really sorry to read you lost one in such a way
, the one thats left will be wondering where it's best mate has gone.
I can't really subscribe to the "cats should be kept indoors" argument, I personally think this is worse than than what has happened to your cat. I've got two cats myself, I am aware that one day one may not come back, its a sad fact of owning a cat. To keep a cat cooped up indoors must be torturous, cats like to get out and about, they are made that way.
As for a tribute to honour the cat, why not rescue one from the local cat sanctuary? You can make a donation there, why not pass the cat's name on aswell?
Cheer up,your cat looks like it had a charmed life, you should dwell on this.
Mike.

Feel sorry for you mate
, I was gutted when my rabbits died. I hope your other cat cheers up to. Our guinea pig was not the same and hardly ate for a few days after the first rabbit had to be put down, so much so that we went out and got another rabbit to keep her company. She settled down a few days after getting the rabbit though.

Really sorry to hear of your loss.
Had my current cat for 10 years and she almost died as a kitten from illness so its all a kind of bonus but she has such a personality as I'm sure yours did I'll be gutted when its her turn.
I'd like to get a couple more which might ease the pain when one goes.
Feel for your poor other cat also.
Not sure how it would react to a new addition replacing its friend too soon. Maybe after a bit of time?
I'm looking to get more from shelters myself. Its nice to give them a happy home.
Time heals things but unfortunately you can't rush it along.
Take care and enjoy the good memories.

Sorry for your loss

deanimus, the ginger one has had kittens (7 weeks ago) so we *may* keep one as we dont know how it would react to a new cat, but we can perhaps look into getting a rescue one. I dont know at the moment because I just cant line myself up to get hurt again and apologise to Mr Manchester, but bloody hell, cat it may be, but it was part of my family. I sympathise with your loss also. It will be many times worse, but this hurts bad enough for me at the minute
