heard an interesting statitic today - 80% of surveyed drivers say they are above average drivers. go figure.
and apparantly 97% of statistics are made up.

Makes me laugh that, I am an amateur and fully aware of my limitations, some people mistake enjoying driving for being good at it. You can only say you are a good driver when you stop driving due to old age and have never had an accident.
I think there are drivers (like most of Scoobynet) and people who can operate a car.

I like to think I'm a good driver, but I speed, drive too close to other vehicles, can't park to save my life and my clutch control is questionable. Only 1 accident when I was 17, though.

A bad driver is a driver who thinks they are above average IMHO.
I never say I'm a good driver. In the eyes of the highway code and police, I'm well below average
Although I will say I'm a confidant driver. But I speed, take too many risks pulling out on island/junction etc. And am quite agressive at times.
However, I do get complimented on my driving, having a clean licence and never being in a RTA that was my fault may say something......I'm lucky![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

my dads been driving for 40 odd years and he has had only 2 prangs - both in reverse, while parking. so he is above average, as long as he is going forward me thinks. as for me, im 19, had my imp turbo for a year and not a prang yet (except for a tyre blowout when i touched a curb, but thats pirellis fault
).

For instance, there is a SNetter whose driving prowess is legendary, but who has had at least one prang that I know of...

well then i mean safe driver. my dad drives slower than snail (well thats untill he drove my scoob), so thats prob why he has never pranged. and he checks his mirrors about 48.2 times a minute. etc etc...

After numerous independant professional assessments I can declare that the current concensus is that I am significantly above average, but given that the average is so poor it doesn't take much to rise above. However the police might disagree but their criteria is different from those whose opinions I value ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I have had 2 accidents, both with unusual circumstances and below 20mph

I think the "average" driver is pretty hopeless. The average driver doesn't bother indicating at roundabouts; uses the foot brake instead of handbrake when at a standstill; turns the wheels when waiting to turn right (so a rear end shunt throws you into the oncoming traffic); has no concept of speed so pulls out; is completely gormless and dithering, etc, etc....
.... and that's only me!

In some respects I am worse than average - i.e. drive too fast sometimes, get too agressive (getting better with age though), other respects I believe I am better than average, though I can't think of any!!!
