Bribery vs. Blackmail

Why do people incorrectly use these words?!
Just had another argument about it in the office and its starting to get tiresome.
Bribery - giving someone a bribe (i.e. gift) in exchange for them doing something
Blackmail - forcing someone to do something by threatening to do something negative if they don't
One is a reward for doing something, and one is a threat for NOT doing something - see the difference?
Anyway, I think I have left the boss in little doubt that he is a blackmailer and is not bribing us as he incorrectly mused!
