Just curious !
Some Gatso line markers run along the road in the direction of traffic flow, these are short lines, about 10 ? of them spread over a 20 m stretch or so.
Others are three solid lines, just a few cm apart, that run across the road.
What is the significance of the two styles- could it be for different camera types ?
Anyone know?
Thanks

Gatso uses Radar and take a silver halide picture of the back of your vehicle (some may now be moved to digital). Truvelo uses the 3 piezo electric strips in the road to detect your speed (hence why old style radar detectors are useless) and trigger the camera to take a digital picture from the front. If your on a motorbike just stick 2 fingers up at it

Do the digital Gatsos need the lines on the road, or are they superimposed onto the image ? We have a new wave of Gatsos in and around the Leeds area which either aren't active yet, or simply don't need the white lines

Tuvelos don't need the lines - those three white lines are just where the sensor(s) is/are buried IIRC.
Gatsos may or may not need lines - the one in the south end of Sandy doesn't have them because speed calculations can probably be made using the building in the background of any pic. The camera can work out the speed without lines, they are just there in case a motorist appeals against the indicated speed - then a manual calc can be done.
