Question FAO Men with Children...

Just out of interest, how many of you were too squeamish to be with your partner when she gave birth?

Not me. I was kept away from the 'buisness end' though and stepped out while the waters were broken.

<caveat> was only on the labour ward 25mins </caveat>

Hello

I was there, but ignored the comments from the over enthusiastic nurse

"Quick, look, the placenta is coming out! Quick .. you will miss it!".

If I had been a little more on form, I would probably have asked if she would like to come home and fry it with some garlic as it's very nutritious.

Steve.

Been at it on and off since 11am and at 9pm the X Files movie came on the TV in our little room. Ohh, I thought least I get to watch this while I'm waiting for the misses to do the business.

Starting Credits just finish "POP" oh my god thats just nasty!

5am we are done and have a little alien of our own.

The beauty of childbirth? yeah right!

I was there, nearly missed the actual birth bit when I glanced at wifey just as head was about to come fully out & the rest sort of quickly slithered out...

I didn't want to cut the cord - can't see the symbolism in that or its not going to do anything for me mentally anyway - but got handed baby about 5 secs after she appeared - here you go Dad!

Didn't want to miss it & glad I was there. Couldn't use my right hand for a while after wifey had crushed it during labour

Thumbs up

Mrs D had a c-section, saw it all apart from the initial incision. Surgeon & nurses were encouraging me to take pictures throughout, got a nice one of D jnr as he came out through the sunroof.

And you certainly need your right hand for a good few months after a birth

I was there for both, revolting but interesting and extremely good to see your kids pop into the world. I have to say though, cutting the perineum was not something I would like to witness again!

Wife had c section first time, she'd had a rough time and TBH I was crapping myself, stayed at the right end throughout with my back to the "op". It was all a big relief at the end.

Second time is 4 days overdue, so any minute now I hope . Off to see Consultant this afternoon for section date and time

I was there last August, and cut the cord... ( tough buggers to cut )

All joking aside, it was the most amazing experience I will probably ever go through and don't think I will ever forget that moment...

Yep, assisted in the delivery

Wouldn't have missed it for the world, either the delivery or the 13 years afterwards. The bit 9 months before was rather fun, too

I've 3 kids...
Calvin, born naturally but from breech, lots of snipping and assistance.
Emily, born naturally, normal...easy peasy
Christian, caeserian, breech
There for all 3, squeamish doesn't really make a difference IMHO when it comes to childbirth....different priorities kick in and help you see it though...I was sick after my mate had the end of his finger ripped off in a door whilst pissed and I had to hold him by the sink with it under the cold water...so I am a bit squeamish in different circumstances.

I stayed away from the business end as much as possible. The midwife soon stopped that nonsense "You can see the head - tell her you can see the head dad - here touch it!!!". Oh great. It is amazing to watch - but it certainly ain't pretty. Think Alien and you ain't far out. Anyone who says it's beautiful shouldn't really be allowed out IMHO

I thoroughly recommend the gas and air though hehehehe

To those who are saying they have this event imminent - GOOD LUCK! The rest of us can tell you you're gonna need it - and hope you manage to keep hold of the scoobs.

I was there for my boy Joe, I took one click glance down below as his head was coming out and thought "f%^k me will that ever work again" PMSL!!!! After that I concentrated on the higher regions

I was asked if I wanted to cut the cord but declined, Deb did though. She went through the whole labour thing without even as much as suck on the gas!

Down the corridor I could hear what sounded like somebody being murdered

Goes down as the most amazing moment in my life, and I cried like a baby LOL!!!! What a *****

No 1 - Emergency C-Section. Was really worried until all the checks were done, wife and kid ok so I could slip off and have a five minute cry then go back and be strong for them.

Unfortunately, a miscarriage before

No 2 - Another C-Section but this was a lot better and managed to assist the doctors, watch littl'in come through and basically "enjoy" the experience.

Funnily enough though, I have difficulty watching childbirth [especially C-Sections] on tv now.

No more kids on the horizon so we just do it for fun .... yippee
