Meme sahib thought she'd grow some French beans this year. They've been doing really well in a half barrel with canes and now about 4ft high. Suddenly colder weather, heavy rain and strong winds and the leaves have turned black and frizzelled up. I assume this is weather related but anyone got any comments and any chance they will recover? PS. I am sure they haven't been attacked by neighbour's cat in case any wag suggests that

She could try covering them with clear bin bags to create a warmer environment for them. Can she move them to a more sheltered position?
The beans might recover, but cropping will be scant, as the plant will have to put its energy into growing more. Remove the worst leaves now, as then energy will not be wasted on them.

It sounds like the wind has got to them which is what has happened to heaps of my sunflowers. The previous suggestion has merit but I'd add to that by trying some tomatoe feed to the rootball and see if that can "boost" them after their battering.
