Just FYI, Gretna is a std register office, just in a somehow 'coveted' area....
Scottish wedding rules apply - notice of wedding has to be posted something like 7 days before the wedding.....wedding licence got from the registrar before the day.
Usual register office rules - couple of witnesses required.
Pretty easy.

Imlach, you are an ambassador for Scotland
We looked at Gretna but sacked the idea, my advice is to not bother because marriage is $hit and the solicitors will get you in the end

To be honest, we were passing through Gretna one day on the way back from Lake District, so out of curiousity, decided to take a look....it was pretty tacky IMHO. Loads of coach parties, tacky piper, etc etc.
Not somewhere I would consider for a memorable wedding. You could choose many other places in Scotland to get married using the same system (ie, quick timescales).

Apart from your flights and accomodation, a friend has just set up a wedding service company in Cyprus. For £750 you get the works, beach wedding, vicar, after party function room , wedding cake, flowers......bargain!

Kev, IMHO go on holiday to get married.
I got married in Florida, May of this year and it was brilliant. Didn't go for a Mickey Mouse wedding, got married in tropical gardens. Used a wedding co-ordinator called Lorraine who was fantastic, its her own business and she really looks after you Get Married in Florida
Even when I forgot the licence and we had to turn the limo around and go back to the villa causing us to be an hour late at the venue, it was still "No Problem"
Good luck & all the best whatever your choice of wedding!
Bob (still recovering 18months after the accident!)
Edited to add: The coordinator package we chose cost us around £800 and included 4hours use of a limo, the venue (Country house and the tropical gardens), flowers, Minister, photographer with 60 photos (you get to keep the negatives!) and the services of Lorraine who will sort out anything you could want. Well worth it IMHO
