My car jack fell over last night
As I was letting it down I was behind the car letting it down and the trolley jack fell over onto its side and the car rolled backwards and trapped me against the garage wall It was very worrying for a minute because I hit my head when it rolled backwards onto me and my phone was in my car parked outside Luckily I managed to squeeze out and I was shaking afterwards, only a few minutes earlier I was underneath there
Lucky escape I think, I could have still been there now
<note to self>
Tell people I'm going up the garage

Lucky escape!
Similar thing happened to me years ago with a metro! It was just quick reflexes and determination not to be killed by a Metro that got me out!

Too much danger!
glad you are ok Paul, as a rule i chock one wheel both sides and use the hand brake or put the car into gear you can never be too safe when jacking cars up!
I think halfords sell plastic wedges for less than a tenner or use 2 bricks etc
cant beat that "oh no second" as your semi conscoius brain works out something is badly wrong just before you realise exactly what is happening, gets the old heart beating nicely!!

Thing is because the rear was jacked up the handbrake obviously wouldn't work so I just naturally put it in gear like I normally do....I forgot that I removed the head last week DOH!!!!!!
I still had to get back under the bl00dy thing afterwards to remove something else so I wedged everything I could find under there

Jesus mate, sounds like you're lucky to get away with all your bits intact!
Lucky escape mate, you take care in future ok?
Mind you, it would be a good epitaph "I was capri'd to death" would look good on a gravestone.

father in law had a car fall on his face whilst doing some work on it 10 or so years ago, rushed to hospital in a police car, as they were quicker than an ambulance - all OK no, but he WILL NOT get back under a car! - I always stick a scissor jack on each side of the motor, plus a tree stump to stop anything untoward happening

You're lucky, dude!
I wonder how my father has survived till today because he always used to take bugger all precautions when jacking the car up and working under it!
I do the following: Put the car in gear - let it roll until it stops - then apply the handbrake - then chock with bricks. This is only for working on the wheels/brakes. If I'm working under the car then I always use ramps.

Lucky Escape you had there!!!!
I was once setting a carb up on a 2.0 Cortina Auto. I was stood in front of it revving the engine from the throttle linkage to try and set the idle speed.
While revving it the auto box dropped into drive and it shot forward pinning me against the house.
Luckily the handbrke was on so as soon as I realised the throttle it was breaking. It hurt like hell but nothing broken, just some bruising.

It happened to me a couple of years ago,,
my own fault... under car trying to remove a gearbox drain, and the car rolled back and off the jack,, luckily i had all the wheels on,,, the rear axle just gave me a nip on the chest,,, made me think!!!!!
tragically my best man/mate was killed last year when a transit van he was working on slipped off the jacks/ stands and crushed him to death...
as you say makes you think!!

Allways use axle stands.. or at least use a trolley jack that costs a minimum of fifty quid.. that would take a crane to tip over.. the ten quid jacks are lethal..

yeah, had a car come off the jack - more than once!
as david says, a nice 3 ton jack is pretty safe on its own (although i could never advise that!) but those crappy halfrauds ones and scissor (jacks of death) are useless. i only ever use the big trolley jack and you cant pull the car off it.
scary when the car falls, you never realise just how quick you can move to get out of the way! last time a scissor jack gave way and luckily the petrol tank took the brunt and saved me from a crushing.
