Do they cost anything and how long do they take to draw up?

Thanks in advance

cost depends on your bank

barclays - mine costs £10 and they do it there and then as long as you have the money in your account and take 2 forms of ID

I got one from HSBC - £10 ordered the day before. Went to pick it up and they'd done it wrong - they issued a new one immediately - so they can do it on the spot if pushed.

Mine cost £12 (NatWest ), but it only take 5 mins. Also beware that many banks no longer will verify a bankers draft over the phone, like they used to if you read out the numbers to them. You have to take them to a bank to verify, a bit of a pain if its a Sunday (Sorry again Andy )

Yorkshire bank did it there and then for £15 for me.. just walked in without any notice asked and got it... quite annoyed to find out though that they dont clear straight away, its no quicker than using a cheque dont quite know the point of a bankers draft if thats the case though... only comfort is the person receiving the bankers draft will know 100% it'll clear

If you are buying a car from a dealer, some will now actually get the money from your debit card (on your current account) if you let them know beforehand. They do this because they cannot be bothered with the hassle of bankers drafts anymore.

Cheers

That is the point - the draft is for the vendor's benefit, not yours. Provided they can be certain it's genuine then they know they will get their money, even if you don't have the funds in your account.

If you don't have the funds in your account the bank won't issue a draft.

What about if you want to use some of your overdraft? Ie i have enough money but need to dip into my FREE overdraft a little.

Do you think they'll let me?
