Default Birmingham to London via canal

Is it (or was it ever) possible to get from Birmingham to London via canal? I've got a bet with a couple of mates after sitting in the pub last night

Damn, I'm too late

I'll be on a little bit of the Grand Union Canal this weekend, on the Birmingham to London route no less

Wink

I love that stretch where the M1 is one side of the Grand Union and the main Glasgow to Euston rail line is the other side and you're toodling along doing 2 or 3 kts whilst supping a beer and everything around you is gong mental.

And it's even better when the road and rail elements both peel off and leave you in peace. Truely a great way to unwind.

Cheers

Thumbs up

Yep, agreed. I love setting off before the rest of the world wakes up on a beautiful, quiet summer morning and then shattering the peace and tranquility with the sound of the two cylinder fire breathing monster Kelvin K2 that lives in the engine room firing up

Actually once it gets going it sounds more like a steam engine as it chuffs and klerdonks it's way along the cut. There's nothing nicer than mooring up in the early evening in the middle of nowhere and sitting out on the front deck with a cool beer and nowt but the birds and fishes for company
