Queen Wasp!!!!
As I got in after a few beers, something caught my eye as it vanished beneath the fridge
I thought it might be a grasshopper, so I got the torch to take a look. This was no grasshopper, but a monster sized wasp!!
Anyway, I vacated the house and turned off the lights, to collect my thoughts and return a few minutes later to spot the monster in the open. I got a pint glass and trapped the bu**er. It went mental!!! I have some piccys to post when this is over.
Anyway, how to deal with the monster. I can't just release it like a harmless spider. What I've done is spread loads of Nippon on some card and slide it beneath the glass (risky in itself IMO) The fiend is currently writhing and stinging imagined enemies, and coated in white powder, and I'm genuinely freaked out!!!
Hope it dies soon.....

I hope there is something in the pictures to identify scale. Just thinking about it, it must surely be too late for queen wasps to be looking for a nest site and too early to be looking for somewhere to hibernate so either:
a) It has been confused by the crappy weather
b) It is a refugee from another nest caused by some lunatic with a can of Optimax!
c) It isn't really a queen (meaning UB *is* the queen, a drama queen! )
d) It's not a wasp its a hornet

And it was BP Regular unleaded, not Optimax

Ant powder is all you need, and some means of getting it into the nest without being stung to death!
For example fill up the end of a 1/2" tube with powder, stick it into the nest and blow as hard as you can on the other end. Then peg it. Assuming you get a good dose into the nest they will all be dead within 2-3 hours.
