Take a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly, which has a superb beach. The best bit about it though, is the actual ferry trip across Sydney Harbour ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
As for the rest of it, you can't go wrong, there are dozens of fantastic restaurants and the city is fairly compact so everything is easily accessible. Probably the best city in the world (just a shame it's full of ignorant Aussies
).
Where exactly are you staying?

There's loads to do - the obvious ones are the Zoo at Taronga (you'll need to get the ferry), the bridge, the opera house, many many tours (including a booze tour which picks you up from your hotel) and the town itself of course.
Don't forget to spend some time in Darling harbour (a bit like our London Docklands only much better) - it's fantastic at night time and they often have fireowrks, live music or lasers on the water. Loads of bars too.
One of my favourite visits was actually to the Naval museam which sounds really boring but it was great fun. There's a submarine berthed there which you can wander round, a replica clipper (from memory) and the indoor bit.
I'm missing loads of other things off but it really is the trip of a lifetime and I'm now very jealous...

We've already booked the bridge climb and an opera at the Opera House.
The ferry ride sounds fantasitc.
I can't remember the hotel name, but it over looks the bridge and the botanical gardens!

I now live in Sydney (moved here about 4 months ago). There's great dining everywhere. There's some really nice but cheap restaurants all round Darling Harbour, Sushi bars and good restaurants everywhere in the City, but for something simple, get the ferry to Manly and have "Fish of the Day" at the Manly fish cafe.
You might find the zoo a bit of a dissapointment - it's undergoing some major re-development at the moment and the whole place looks like a building site.
The Rocks is also worth a stroll round (as I do most Saturday mornings).
Have a good time anyway.

Andy,
I'm just back from spending 4 weeks in Sydney + 1 week up in Surfers Paradise.
Ferry's are dirt-cheap and leave from Circular Quay all the time. Watson's Bay is a great place to take the ferry too and only 15 mins ride. There's a fantastic Fish 'n Chips restaurant that does excellent food.
Bridge Climb takes about 3hrs. It's very easy, but the spend a lot of time making sure you're kit'ed up and briefed on safety. Then it's a very leisurely stroll up and back down.
Take a trip on the Jet Boats. There's one that leaves from Circular Quay and is a good wee adrenalin rush.
The Syndey Tower is worth a trip up for the view and the little simulation ride at the end.
Darling Harbour is good for some night-life and trendy bars. Also good during the day to stroll around and have some food. Maritime Museum, Powerhouse Museum and the Aquarium are all round there if you're into that sort of thing. I liked the Destroyer and Submarine tours and wandering around the PowerHouse Museum.
As Popeye said, the Zoo is getting major work done and we were a bit disappointed when we went. My sister did get a photo next to a Koala and a Kangaroo, so she was happy enough![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Botanic Gardens are worth a walk through, especially now the weather's getting better.
The StarCity Casino's OK. Nice lit up at night and it's always busy. There's a new buffet restaurant opened in it (can't remember the name), but food was good.
