Considering applying for a job and the ad asks to forward a copy of my CV plus a 'covering letter. Anyone like to enlighten me as to what's expected in the covering letter.

It's the short letter which quotes the references, job title etc. You then say briefly why you are applying and what you can do for them. You say that your CV is enclosed. There will be examples ad nauseum in any job seeker's guide or on the net. Tip. ONE PAGE ONLY. DL

Dear Mr ,

JOB REFERENCE/TITLE

I am applying for the above post which I saw advertised in...

I am enclosing my cv as requested and you will see that I have had 3 years experience in .......

I have read the job description carefully and feel that I could contribute positively to your plans to....

I would be very willing to discuss this position with you and look forward to hearing from you.
