Call BT and report it. They can trace the number even though it's witheld, they probably won't tell you who it is but will be able to block it. I believe they take this sort of thing quite seriously.

Probably one of these fecking annoying autodiallers.

When you do get someone on the other end, I'd put money on English not being the first spoken language........

1) Register with the telephone preference service
2) Pay BT £12 a quarter to block anonymous calls..

.. not even my parents can call me now LOL

no offence intended m8, just thought you could do with cheering up.
I had similar prob a while back, phone ringing every 1/2 hour, started at 2am !!!! Had to unplug the phone to get some sleep. Was ok next morning, and never did find out who/what caused it?

ray,

register with the tps, we used to get a dodgy call every night at about 6.45. turns out it was an automated sales thing.

stopped the dodgy calls in a few days.

the current girlfriend is convinced its a woman lol, she kept a hold of my fone all day once to answer it when it happend and we got nothing, i dropped her off at her dad and drove to the bottom of the street and got a call there and then

Had load of these as well recently, at all hours of the day and night. Called BT to report it and they said there's been a load of complaints recently.

The girl I spoke to said it was definately telesales. Apparently an autodialer just dials through a list of numbers and if there's not one of their guys available to speak to you when you pick up it just hangs up.

Did the tps thing and that sorted it.

I have been having this problem for a few months now, sometimes none a day, other days I have up to 6, some hang up the minute you answer, the others are just silent and breathing and this carries on until I hang up, I'm not being funny, but my husband works long hours and with me being in the house alone with three children, I find it quite unnerving and it's got to the point now where I don't want to answer the phone, because it's starting to get to me now

DK1 - get it blocked by your phone provider asap - the breathing thing is very strange.....automated dialers do not heavy breath !

Cool

Has anyone had the beep calls? It's not a fax, you don't get the usual old modem connection noise, it's just a beep followed by another and so on until you hang on. At any time of the day too.

I wasn't sure if you're able to block witheld numbers though

It can't be anyone we know, because we haven't had the phone in l;ong and only a few people have the number, as we have it ex directory and barred, nobody has it unless we give it them !

I wanted to ask BT if I could get a new number off them, but I wasn't sure if it would mess with my broadband connection

BT will change the number no probs. It won't affect your ADSL line.
