Speed kills.
If the government is so keen to stop speeding, why not introduce a penalty where anyone exceeding the speed limit by any amount has their car crushed? No points system, no excuses, no second chance. Maybe a couple of miles per hour tolerance.
I'm sure this would reduce speeds considerably. Why bother with speed cameras and revenue collecting bureaucracy when this idea is obviously going to be much more effective and efficient?
<warning>Please do not FAX this suggestion to your MP</warning> Any counter arguments welcomed.

Why not go the whole hog and crush the driver whilst still in the car then there is no doubt that he/she will never do it again!!!
It will also keep the population down

So you'll HAVE to use public transport - but seeing as it has only got worse in the last 10 years, you had better hope you live within walking distance of anybody you want to see and that you can work from home!!

There is no evidence of big investment in public transport schemes under labour. Also, Labour got rid of the fuel tax escalator that ensured fuel tax rises exceeded infaltion (the Tories invented it).
So whilst New Labour may be theoretically committed to public transport, their policies do not bear this out.

At least with Health & Education they did actually increase spending in these areas - it just didn't acheive the results they were hoping for, as the problems are more deep seated than just shortage of cash. So you can add incompenent to two faced...

Historically they do not like people to have the freedom of movement they get by owning a car, this goes against the idea of complete control of the population which is the great goal. But they are of course quite happy to accept the taxes we have to pay.
They say wonderful things about what they are going to do to provide good public transport which after 7+ years we are still waiting to see. In common of course with all those other great promises. As someone said, they throw money at some of the problems but their gross ineptitude in actually creating an improvement shows.
